Performance Upgrade Question
 

i have 2010 camaro ss1 automatic. i have a few questions that i could use some feedback/suggestions on.

i want to upgrade the performance on it and ive been thinking about getting the Hennesy Longtube headers and Hennesy cold air intake. would this be a good idea and worth the money? And could i buy them from the dealership and have them install? i dont want to install myself.

and last, is there any other performance upgrades that anyone would recommend? (im not very experienced with upgrades)

some help would be appreciated!

me personally I wouldnt buy from Hennesy, you are paying for the name for the most part and get get better proformance from cheaper companies. for headers i would go with Kooks or ARH and get a intake from C.A.I or ADM. and for sure get a transmission tune.

I would suggest the following for a nice bolt on performance package that a Camaro5 enthusiast may be willing to tackle!

Kooks 1 7/8ths long tube headers - These are made here in the USA out of top quality materials, with excellent fit and finish! Expect 35-45 horsepower increase! Installation of this long tubes can be done with basic hand tools, a good jack and jack stands, and some patience, but they are no overly difficult!

Next up is in intake - Roto-Fab makes an market leading performance intake for the new Camaro. It is very nice to install with excellent fit and finish as well. Installation of this unit can be done with basic hand tools.

Also additionally you may be thinking about a 160 degree thermostat to lowering operating temperatures (unless you plan to drive the car in the winter) and some low impedance spark plug wires such as a set of MSD super conductor wires.

Finally tuning, this will be essential to achieve maximum performance on your Camaro, with the increase of all air flow and performance the factory computer will need calibrated or tuned, many companies have a lot of mail order options for you to make it a plug an play affair to tune your car, expect to budget some sort of tuning into this project!

You are on the right track, but don't get sucked in by the Hennessey brand name. Take a look at this intake system dyno test and you will see the Hennessey system is one of the worst performing systems tested. It actually produced an average loss. We are big fans of the CAI Inc system listed just above the Hennessey in the spreadsheet above. It produces solid gains, does not require a tune, and looks awesome. It is by far our best selling intake system.

I wasn't aware that Hennessey had there own headers for the Camaro, but we have been seeing great results from the Stainless Works 1 7/8. They are high quality 304L SS and are not going to red rust like cheaper 400 series headers and lighter than coated headers. Not to mention they have a killer price when you add them to your shopping cart. Keep in mind that once you add headers you will need to get a tune.

I agree with your track, and like both vendors are on track. A nice intake (we prefer the Roto Fab), a good set of headers (Kook's is our favorite and is simply one of the best fitting/assembled set of headers you'll find) and then...

GET A TUNE! You will always get the best results out of any upgrade if you get a tune done by a good tuner. There are several across the country and I'm sure a good one (or two or three) in your area.

If you want some free help installing stuff you buy, let me know. I live in KC by Liberty. I have basic handtools, jack, stands, etc. There is plenty of room in my driveway to do such things. I'm going to be installing quite a few parts (headers and full exhaust, trailing arms, toe rods, subframe bushings, and maybe a cam) over the next couple of weeks. Now I just need to learn to tune... :)

Don't forget the TSP packages. We have complete exhaust system from headers all the way to tips (including mufflers) for what most companies charge for just headers & X pipe!

Headers, cold air intake, and a good tune is a solid way to pick up 30, 40, and sometimes even up to 50 rwhp on your car.

Like everyone has said there are a number of manufacturers out there right now so do some shopping around and you can find some really good deals on quality systems. Most are going to be stainless, but not all are so for a long lasting exhaust I would do stainless. Find out what all options they have as far as cats, mufflers, and the like.

We tried to think of what everyone would want and put a modular system together that is easy enough to bolt on at home in your garage, from a basic header and X pipe all the way up to a complete system with polished 3" mufflers and high flow cats.
