Its faster than a 1989 Dodge Omni.

There..it is faster than something.

brandotron 09-01-2010 01:03 PM

It's faster than my rollerblades.

doesn't matter what you drive(6 vs 8), unless you track it often. Last time I checked the speed limit hasn't changed(much). Car design FTW. And if you think smaller powerplants can't put out, take a spin in a GTR...:D

Curious, how many tuners get asked, "is it a modded 4 or a 6 banger?"

maybe the OP is going through the 'shoulda bought a V8' saga:(

This thread is cracking me up... Most owners of these cars (V6 or V8) don't race them at the track... If someone does race it, then they most probably have modified if to meet their racing needs...

I really have to LOL at the posters who think the V6 should be the fastest car on the planet for 23K....

Like I said, this thread is really making me laugh.... Thanks!!!!

I doubt you had the same firehawk as the one I showed in the link...unless you paid over 40k for it in the early 90's. If you had that car you would of known it. It was 350 hp and 390 tq at 34xx lbs. Thats no 14 second car my friend. Thats a 12 second car with traction.

They switched to a speed density system in 1990 and got more power. 245hp and 345 tq was the rating from then on.

You are not showing the stats from a 1990-1992 car and or they are incorrect. (as far as hp/tq....15.2 could happen...a 16 could happen...its driver/conditions)

http://www.thirdgen.org/1992-chevy-camaro
245hp/345tq

Some more tests and specs

http://www.prophetsofmadness.com/iro...magarticle.htm
(245 hp/345tq...97.7 trap speed. decent 14.7)

http://www.prophetsofmadness.com/iro...endofanera.htm
(14.4 @ 97.8 mph) 245hp/345 tq

Enough proof of the 14.4 and ~98 mph trap speed like I said in the first place?

I guess that was the best run of all time for the car. First time in history it has happened. But that was the best run ever right their. They must have been at Perfect DA in 50 degree weather with the wind behind them and a factory ringer (and with Evan Smiths dad BTW)...they could never have gone any faster than 14.4.

Ive hijacked this thread enough...Im out.

Thanks for calling me a lair on not owning the firehawk. I know the car very well thank you and have owned it for six years. It never ran for me anyhow what it was suppose to, that's why I sold it. As far as the spec I produce being wrong ,they are not. They are for a 1992 trans am not a Camaro. Camaro did have 245Hp in 1992. Look back at the very link you posted to the thirdgen and you will see what I'm taking about. That fact remains that no TPI ,other than the firehawk, which is slp, which means it's not solely stock, could ever run a 13.9. Your 5hp gain in the 1992 camaro over the trans am isn't going to get you a 1.3 sec quicker the 1/4mile.

To be fair it hasnt been massively displayed or such as being 312 HP.

Most people saw the "304 HP" from the original ads and still are thinking that is true. GM quietly announced it re-rated the engine at 312HP.

It doesn't matter one way or the other. Its just as fast with the official 312 as it was with the unofficial 304.

I don't know what type enjoyment you derive from driving your car but there is a HUGE difference between driving a V8 and a V6 car that's n/a. The GTR isn't n/a so that's a moot point. The difference I'm speaking of has nothing to do with breaking the speed limit either. It's all about how the car responds and how it sounds....

Seriously who cares? Just be fortunate enough and be happy with what you drive. Other people aren't so fortunate. You have a nice car. I see people every day that drive old beat up cars living pay check to pay check. Appreciate life.

^^ Yup! That's really what matters. There are quite a few people driving around in new cara and living check to check as well ;)

A 300hp v6 is no joke and they're right about there's always something faster out there. That's why you have to mod it if you want to of course and you won't be racing Everyday you drive anyways
