Better Gas Milage in Sport Mode

Took a trip yesterday and was really paying attention to gas mileage. I avg. 27.6 mpg in sport mode when I would switch to drive it would drop down to 23.2 mpg. I set cruise @ 70 mph and let it go. Anyone else have this exp. or is it just me? Trying to get the best mpg I can get.

I can't comment...........but will give it a try and let you know. That would be a nice way to pick-up 4-5 MPG. This might also cut down on the AFM kicking in and out at will. More to follow.

I know I get 24.5 in D, but have not tried in sport maode. I'll have to try it.

Wow, that is great news. I just recently discovered "sport mode" and I absolutely love it. For some reason I thought I would get worse gas mileage using that instead of "drive" but I'll pay attention to that. :w00t:

It makes sense to get better gas mileage in sports mode if you arent romping on it

Abygale 09-28-2009 09:36 AM

LOL, that's my problem. I like to "romp on it."

very interesting, as long as you keep it between 1 and 2 rpm and cruise at that speed you will get even more, try 80 mph and you will see a gain too. I don't think it matter if you are in sport mode is all about how hard u pressing the gas and breaking.

When you drop the transmission into "M", it puts it into sport mode.
You will see and "S" in the bottom left corner of the center display.

This is indeed very good news. I will watch it and see what happens. Thanks for the info.:w00t:

I got 29.1 MPG on mine!!

Not sure how D or S would make a difference if you set cruise control at 70mph. Both would be in 6th. In general, D should get you better mileage since it keeps the RPMs down compared to sport. You could get better results in S based on where and how you drive, but in the same situations, D should be a little better. For me, when in its in S I get worse because I am slamming on the pedal. As soon as it slips into that mode my mind believes we're on the race track!

I got better gas mileage results in Sport mode instead of D, :)
I was under the impression it was the opposite :iono:

At 60 mph I can get about 29 mpg and at 70 mph which is my average hwy speed I get about 24mpg. this is in the D mode.
