Trouble removing Catch can
 

Hey guys,

I can’t seem to get my catch can to unscrew so I can clear it out.

Even tore up my hand trying to unscrew it. Any tips to get it off and prevent this from happening next time?

You may have to use an oil filter removal strap tool. That usually means someone
put it on too tight.

Use a rubber jar opener pad to grip the can and unscrew, or filter removal strap like CamaroDude suggested. If it's an Elite Engineering can, remove the stupid rubber O ring. That's what is making your life miserable. Don't worry, nothing will leak due to O ring removal

Make sure if you keep the o-ring on, that it has a thin layer of lube on it. A little on the threads helps too. As mentioned above, invest in a rubber strap wrench or two. I own a standard size and one that's a little bit smaller. They work really well on things you don't want to scratch up.

I have the Elite Engineering X2 catch can. Never had an issue unscrewing it, but if you guys have one, be mindful of what I found just this afternoon:


Went to empty my can (unscrewing the bottom part to empty out the oil), when I saw the entire assembly was sitting in the can rather than being attached to the upper half via the intake. How in the world the inner assembly piece wound up in the can is beyond me. I apparently underestimated the force of air being pushed through there in conjunction with all of the vibration. Not sure how else that thing came unscrewed. It was a pain trying to screw it back on without having to uninstall the catch can (I'm lazy like that sometimes). I'll definitely have to keep an eye on that thing going forward, though.
