Best way to Dyno before and after a tune?

I plan on getting a tune once my Vararam intake is installed.
I have DT shorties and !mufflers as other mods.

I want to get a baseline for the above mods before and after the tune.

What's the best way to do that for accurate results?

We can perform a couple pulls before we tune it.

Do you already have the mods installed? If not, we can make you a package deal with installing the parts, dynoing and tuning.

If you have time, we currently have Mike Obriens 2010 on the lift and are performing a Cincy Speed Stage II. You are more than welcome to come down and tour the shop.

Thanks,
Craig

For the Vararam to work you need to drive it for some 15 mi and not get on it than you need to get on it for the next 15 mi so the ECM learns to work with the Vararam, I know you don't think that is right but as sone as you but the unit on and drive the first thing it dos is hesitate as it is learns, Put i don't know anything as i said it mad me 40 hp in a stock car.

Not sure it will matter as I am getting a tune after I put it on.

No If you are tuning it wont matter one bit

You tuning with HP or EFI live?

IPS Brandon 09-16-2009 01:32 PM

The best method is to make three pulls with atleast 2 of them being back to back (with in 30 seconds or so) then that will give you a proper base line average based on the weather conditions that day.

Then the most accurate way would be to then to allow some cool down time while adjusts are made to the PCM and then come to a final pull the pro tuner is happy with, and there is your before and after.

As for driving around for 15 minutes...There is no need to to this if your adjust the maf and fueling during the tuning process. We have already tuned 12 intake 2010 cars here at our facility, and they have all turned out well. We are just in Columbus as well, if your in the area or would like to have us help you with your project just let us know.

If you are getting a tune unit you we need a tuner that has a tune for a tune Vararam unit.

I would advise you to use the same dyno and have the same person run the equipment so that they are consistent. Run after buying the car. Run after your break-in. Run after modifications are installed. Tune it. Run it again.

Wish I had gotten a dyno as a baseline :(

Oh well - not going back!

Ok, are the Dyno numbers good? I was told you lose about 15-20% from the engine to the rear wheels and the best was about 381 hp at the rear. Good? His torque was off and he said something was up with the DynoJet. Oh well...

Attachment 55440

I have the ADM CAI & Zoomers CAT Back exhaust installed. No other engine/performance mods.

I am up in the air on which shop to have my dyno/tune done.
The one closest to my house would be most convenient.
But I want to make sure I'm getting the best available.

Several years ago, I drove my '94 Z28 3 hours to Lingenfelter because of their reputation. I was very happy with the service I got there.

My question is:

Is there a big difference in shops/tunes?

There is absolutely a difference in the shops, and tuners. Experience and results are great characteristics of a prominent shop, for example ligenfelter. We have over 10 years experience tuning LS based PCMs, and are constantly in contact with the developers of HP tuners to run test software and beta programs, so the pros trust IPS.

I believe if you look at our record in the corvette market for example, having the highest horsepower and fastest C6Z in the country at 1132 whp through an automatic unlocked converter on our in house dynojet. This is a street driven car as well on a stock ECU, you then realize we can tune nearly all applications with no limits :).

In short use a shop that will back there work, explain the process, the before and after results, and you will have a great experience, and a quality tune. We also have nice programs for touch ups as you continue modifying your car.

Convenience is NOT always a good thing. I too would drive for quality work.

When there is a shop LOCAL to me, I would at least go check them out in person. Ask questions, check out their shop, ask other customers about them etc etc.

Here at Cincy Speed, we have a couple 4th Gens we will be tuning today and tomorrow. You are more than welcome to come down and watch us in action.

Good Luck with your Camaro, whichever shop you choose.
