Free Garmin Updates?

Anybody know how to get free updates for the garmin Nuvi Units?

Did you create an online account with Garmin and register your unit?

After you register it you will see all available updates for your unit, including whether or not you are eligible for a free map update.

Just download the webupdater app. Then just plug in your nuvi to usb and it does all the updates. It won't update the interface though. My 300 series has TONS of flaws in it's interface and layout that newer Garmin's have fixed. But no updates for that. Like last second turn notifications, and turn notifications where it doesn't tell you if it's a left or a right. They could update the UI but instead I guess they expect us all to just keep buying new Nav unit's like they're candy. Lame.

I just purchased the lifetime map updates for US$119 from my.garmin.com although I've read you can get it cheaper from Amazon.

Yes...I know it's not free, and it's only for the lifetime of one unit, but really....$100 bucks and you don't have to think about it. They udate their maps quarterly now and they'll email you when there's an update.
