Cammed ls3 vs bolt on with gears ls3??
Ok so here is a bench race i have been thinkin of
My neighbor has an ls3 nightfury cammed for arguements sake we will call it 500 whp. My car is also an ls3 but is a daily driver so i am getting ready to do headers hiflow cats and a tune. I am also thinking of 3.91 gears. So question is on a 1/4 mile with good drivers and running same tires good launches yadda yadda.... Wud the big hp of the nitefury murder me?? Or wud the mechanical advantage of added hp and gears on my car make it atleast a good race? |
My car full exhaust headers back, intake, tune, 4.10 gears consistently beat my buddies cammed (G6X3) and exhaust at the track. by the end of the 1/4 though he was starting to run me down lol.

yea i would think you would jump out first but toward the end he would reel you in, but you would still win. This race will be won in the first 60'. whomever has the best RT and 60' is going to come out on top.

If he can drive your getting killed, end of story! I dont know were these guys are coming up with this stuff! The gears are worth a tenth maybe on street tires... his cam, worth .3 easy! That car should run 11.9-12.3s @116-120 depending on DA, track prep and driver... your car 12.6-12.4 @112-113 and high 12s if your not on your game.

My buddy has an ECS devil cam, FAST intake and heads (504/470). I will be going with him to the track soon. We both anticipate that he will be faster. My car "feels" about as fast (mods in sig), however his 60whp extra will likely walk me. We might see what's up on the ride down... ;) |

Thanks guys for all the thoughts. All of your statements are exactly why i posted this. It just seems like there are positives to both set ups. I agree that 60 plus hp will make up any advantage gained out of the hole pretty quickly but like i said just a lil bench racing. We will likely never hit a drag track to find out. We are more into auto-x but just kinda wondering.

I have the night fury cam. Only been to the track once. Manual car. Ran 13.3 @114 w a 2.4 60ft, which is not good. Came out too hard. But the potential is there. It will come down to the driver. Once it gets rolling it pulls noticeably harder than it did stock.

Given equal traction and driving I dont see how gears could make up a 60RWHP difference.
