Only 2 psi after installing the cam!!!

Hello guys!

I don't know if this is normal, but my Maggy makes a bouncing boost (mainly 2 psi) after installing GT9 cam!!!
the gauge is reading 2-3-2-1-2-3-2-1-2-3-2-2-2-1-2-3 and so on!

Is that normal? Should I pulley down? The weather is extremly hot in my country (up to 130F) and that's why i'm scared from pulleying down.
Please let me know what I should do :(

Pulley down and retune back to what your safe with on fuel. Should be ok. Cam will loose some psi but flow more air with your maggie.

Is it safe to pulley down with a stock bottom end?

Within reason yes. Keep it in 6-8 psi range and ensure you have enough fuel and it should last a very long time.

Tune is everything and good fuel with high octane fuel or e85 I know people running 15-20 psi on stock bottom end. That much boost loss isn't surprising, I put long tubes on nothing else and lost 4lbs of boost. When you open the air way of these engines you'll be amazed the amount of air they can flow no wonder it's easy to make power with these.

I ran 10lbs just fine on a stock bottom end, you just need a proper tune.

Will methanol injection make it safer?

with 93 octane and a good tune with proper fuel I dont think you will need it on 9-10lbs of boost, but of course meth will always make it safer just dont tune it to depend on meth, tune the meth as a safe guard. If you are worried then just stay around 8lbs and you should be fine i would think.

2 psi? You have a problem. Is the belt tight? What was it making psi wise before the cam? Usually a couple psi drop is normal but not down to 2z

I installed the boost gauge after installing the cam. On the dyno, it was around 7 psi. I didn't run the car on the dyno after the cam.

Check all the obvious stuff. Maybe the boost gauge isn't hooked up to the right port. You have something stupid going on. No way you're only making 2 psi.

I will run the car on the dyno and see if the problem is from the gauge.

What pulley is on the car now? 3.8?

TheMeat 07-05-2014 05:37 PM

What pulley combination do you have on it right now?
