Looking at 45th camaro built date 11 of 11 top issues

I really like the look and the build of the 45th but the top issues concern me to say the least. I think I can get a really good deal on it as the dealer really wants to move it. If I do not buy this I am ordering a 2ss/rs but that will be about 5 grand more I think so it is significant. I spoke to the dealer about the known top issues and of course they said they can't fix what isn't broken. Any pearls of wisdom here folks? I really want something unique and the 45th is just that but I do not want to buy trouble here.

I plan on waiting for the 50th Anniversary edition. :chevy:
None of these bugs, plus more bells-and-whistles.

Hard to say. I have a 2011 SS with a build date of 04/2011. I've had the service call done with grinding down the pointy joints. while that has eliminated the "V" rub marks, I still have rub marks from the top flapping in the wind and rubbing against the back deck. My Camaro is a weekend driver and garage kept with 8K miles. I've decided to stop worrying about it, though I know it's only a matter of time before the rubbing frays my top. This is clearly a design flaw with the 2011 and most 2012 models. Rumor is that GM has added tension cables and adjusted the design with the 2013's, but I doubt GM's long term support beyond 36K miles for us 2011/2012 Camaro owners.

Use this information as you wish, but this is my honest experience.

When is the build date? My understanding is verts's after march '12 were done with the new tops and catch bags....Ive not had any of these issues on my vert yet.

If you can get it for a great deal I would do it, I love my 45th Vert and so far have not had issues with the top.

If you like it than get it! There is really no guarantee on any of these from the research I have done. I had the same fears as you, but I loved the 45th to much to pass up. That and hopefully your dealer will take care of you if any issues arise.

Minge, order up a 2013. You will be better in the long run.

Sad that my decision all be an educated one needs to be predicated on a design flaw

Our 45th was built on 4/10 and we have one rub mark - from the back deck trim. Compared to what we went through BEFORE this isn't AS bad. I would hesitate on any top built before February of this year, that was the advice given to me by our service manager and about 50 people on here. You can gamble and see what happens? The 45ths are gorgeous!

If you want a guarantee - get a Mustang :)

Love the 45th look and so does My wife but we can't get past the top issue. With a build date of november of 2011 you know nothing good is going to come of buying this one. Really depressed as the color is just plain dope, love it....

ask them to replace the top with the new top and you will buy it, shouldnt be a problem.

Oh and the water bag as well

Mine has an August 2011 build date, and as of now I have no issues.

Mine was built a month before that one and so far it has been good. Minor rub marks and one weatherstrip issue in 3 1/2 months and 300+ top cycles. We have almost 6000 miles with at least 5000 with the top down. Make sure all TSBs have been done and then flip a coin. From what I gather its about a 50/50 chance of getting a good one if it was built before 3/12. How lucky do you feel?
I for one am glad I went ahead and took the plunge. When they are right they are beautiful and fun cars to own.
