LFX THROTTLE RESPONSE
 

First off, i have a manual v6 LFX and only have about 200 miles on her.
I have a very noticable delay in throttle body response from an idle. When i give it gas (from an idle) there is an audible "fwopping" noise (which i assume is the throttle body opening) and almost a second delay before any rpms at all. Now I could assume this could be normal, just slow response but, if i just very quickly tap the throttle and let off, i get the "fwop" noise and a drop in rpm where it sounds like the engine almost dies.
There are no throttle response issues at all over 1000 rpms, in fact it performs extremely well at speed. It's just coming from an idle the delay will almost make you stall trying to pull out in 1st.
I took it to the dealership and got the expected "this is normal, it's just the nature of these cars".
Anyone else notice this at all?

Hrrmmm....well my 2010 LLT doesn't seem to have a bad delay. I can't say that it is instantaneous or anything (off idle), but if I give it a good amount of the go juice it seems to take off quick enough that I don't notice anyting abnormal.

Of course I can't speak of the LFX.

Going to be hard to determine this without you trying another owners V6 or maybe even posting a video.

What do you mean by "fwopping"?? I am really trying to comprehend that term but I jut can't no matter what:laugh:, sorry.

There is a delay and it's normal but when you give gas it should be instantaneous but somewhat lazy due to our computer controlled throttle system. It almost sound like you are saying that when you take off from stand still there's 1 sec delay. I can tell you this much, I have a 2011 and mine does not have 1 sec delay from stand still. Maybe the 2012 throttle control is programmed with more delay or restriction but that would just be my wild guess of the night.

Any other 2012 owners experience anything similar?

Sounds kinda like the 300 i drove. I would hit the peddle and it would be a good 1-2 seconds before it did anything. Kinda made driving it a little harder than it should be.

OK, "fwop" was probably not a good word to use. It is definitely a mechanical sound that i am hearing, like two pieces of plastic hitting together, and i believe i can hear a rush of air also before it spools up. (LOL, this is how i got fwop)
The noise wouldn't bother me a bit except for this delay as i feel like it is related. Like i said before, this may be normal but i have a 2002 V6 mustang 3.8 that does not have near the delay as the camaro.
I really don't know how else to describe it, but i thought i would give it a shot.

Maybe a messed up throttle body? One of the v8 guys in my club, had a similar issue and he kept hearing some weird clicking sound from his throttle body.

I think GM replaced it.

I'm assuming you haven't done any mods yet with only 200 miles. Go to another dealer and test drive another Camaro or go to another dealer and let them look at your car. Mine has no delay to speak of but different people interpret things differently. My 2 cents.

Sounds normal to me. Most cars nowadays are drive by wire for the throttle and all drive by wire vehicles have some throttle lag, which is especially noticeable in the lower RPM band.

As suggested, go test drive some others to see if it does the same thing, but chances are it is normal. If it bothers you too bad, I would suggest looking into a SprintBooster or equivalent mod that helps in making the throttle respond better to driver input.

There's a Vmax Motorsports CNC ported throttle body out for the LLT motor in the 2010 and 2011 Camaros that killed the dead spot in the 2000 rpm range, so maybe it's a similar issue with the 2012's just in a different spot in the RPM range? Although at that low of an rpm, may just be curable by getting into the drive-by wire throttle control and adjusting it there.

dymndave, have you tried testing other v6 2012 Camaros at all to check them against your vehicle? That would be a good place to start to see if your dealer was correct in their analysis. Let me know how you decide to progress with this. I'd like to help all I can.

By Monday I'll have a new cai and scoop installed and I'll see then how the car feels. We're the lucky guys who get to see how the LFX will respond to upgrades.

I will see if i can go test drive some others to see if it does the same.

Someone else recommended the SprintBooster. Would this mod void warranty or be something the service dept. might have a problem with? Also, do you think a CAI would help this particular problem?

Josh, i assume you haven't noticed this problem at all with yours?

Sounds like you need a good cold air intake to me. IMHO
