the 2ss was always over 34k to start, the basic basic v6 was around 24k (poor mans muscle car)
add the rs and stereo upgrade and select interior mine hit over 38k with tax and employee discount. it was all at msrp minus the discount

No the 2SS has never been that cheap. The 1LS starts at around $23k. One thing I noticed is it looks like they are charging for a lot more colors now. Including Rally Yellow!? GM if you are going to charge for that color you better fix some of the problems with it.

What was the "problem" with Rally Yellow they need to fix?

There has been a number of problems. Particularly the paint is the weakest color I have seen so far when it comes to holding up against chips. It also has a problem with the paint peeling on some of the areas where body panels connect. I have not seen this on mine but I know a number of people who have and GM has told them it is a known problem and has repainted their bumpers because of it. I don't have anything against rally yellow (obviously) I love the color. It's just if GM is going to charge extra for the color I think it should be a higher quality paint. When I had my stripes done I had my hood, front fascia, and rear deck lid repainted by a customs shop and the difference is night and day and the paint they did has not chipped at all.

Interesting, I am looking to get a z28 in Rally Yellow and did not know any of this. I also think charging extra for colors is nothing more than a cheap money-grab, since as evident from the Ultimate Factory show, the colors are not specific to any paint bay and can be changed at will. It doesn't cost them any more to paint black as it does yellow.

All they're doing is cashing in on demand. Which is weird, since Rally Yellow is one of the lowest-demanded colors.

But I agree, paint should NEVER peel or chip easily on a brand new car.
