Under car LED's
I'm going to be added LED's under my car for cruse ins and other events. I want to get the opinions of people that have installed them under their car. After talking to the guys at Night Owl I have decided to use their SL Module. What else would you consider I would need besides the wire and normal install stuff. I will be Soldiering these as I have been told the push on connectors really suck.
Here is what I have right now 5 Reels of IP65 Epoxy Waterproof 12V 5M SMD3528/5050 300 Flexible RGB LED Strip Light Roll o 3M automotive tape 24 Mag Daddys Here are the locations of where I will mount the led strips (Red boxes) https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8596/...e025f4e4_o.jpg Any tips are greatly appreciated PW |
If the front set of LEDs is on the bottom of the splitter I would be afraid they would be damaged...esp on lowered cars.

I have mine in the same locations, The sides are not as long though. And the one on the back you can move back a little and start it up the sides, this will direct more light out along the back
Don't forget to get the 4 wire cable as well. having plugs for a quick replacement of strips may be a good option for problems down the road. I believe Joe (NightOwl) can make you up some lengths of cables with plugs on the end that you will have to solder to the strips. Don't forget to prep the surface well with some wax/tar remover. I would suggest dual-wall, heat-shrink tubing, liquid electrical tape, or, just silicone to seal the strip connections. The first two are faster. ;)
You could put a weatherproof SL up front, or, a regular one in the trunk. Either would be good spots to run the wires from. |
Thanks for the tips guys. I have tons of experience soldering, I was an avionics tech in the Navy working in F-14 Tomcats. The only other question is if I want to program the light to strobe and do bunch of cool stuff, do I need two controllers?

One SL supports four, RGB devices. Those could be the four strips, and, you can run them all independently, or, in sync.

Have you started yet excited to see results :bellyroll:

i had these at one time. had to get rid of them as the only lasted a year. good luck

Been thinking about doing this for shows. I want to do just white and blue though... have them alternating

Finally just got done ordering my new lights for the car.
Diode Dynamics set up for the engine bay, 6# strips of RGB SMD 5050 2#strips for the grill controller Underbody from LEDGlow went with solid Green for this. I'll take the six LEDGlow strips from the engine bay and move them to the interior. Then move the scanner bar to the trunk Still have 2 strobe lights to figure out what to do with. should light up like a xmas tree when I'm done.... |

Got my LED Glow under body kit to day . Fast shipping . Opened it up and man the tubes are a little bigger than I expected , Not going to be fun mounting these . the side ones will be easy ,but the back one isn't going to be easy at all . Hoping to hook them up and check them out . Wont be installing these till April or May . After winter . Wish me luck ..LOL

Hooked the Led Glow under kit up inside to test it out . WOW . This is alittle powerful set . I choose the solid green for the car . And They are supper bright . Very impressed . had fun playing with it all day , My son says it looks sick . I blinded the wife & daughter ..LOL .
The tubes are pretty big , 1 inch round . They will fit really nice under the ACS rocker panels . Have to figure out the front splitter and rear diffuser . But when its done I think its going to look cool as hell. |
