2013 SS Vert vs 2013 Challenger R/T 5.7

So my buddy just traded his 2009 V-6 Challenger on a 2013 Challenger R/T with the 5.7L Hemi. I joked around we should do a grudge match at the track about an hour from us and he readily agreed! :) Both of us have a K&N cold air intake (mine is the Blackhawk) and I have the full Borla cat back ATAK exhaust. He has the stock exhaust. Both cars are automatics, and should be stock in all other regards. Dodge's are heavy, so I'm pretty sure I'm still lighter, but mine being a convertible, not by a lot. On paper I should easily have him by 40+HP and I'm lighter, so I think it's a given unless I fall asleep at the light, but I'm curious what others think. This would be both of ours first times at a strip driving. I used to go watch a lot growing up, but I never ran on one before. I really want a 3.91:1 rear, but it won't happen before we run in the spring. Thoughts?

Thanks guys. :)

Easy win.

Thanks GSJ.

Are we talking 3+ car lengths? :D

An old drag racer claim is that every 15 wheel horse power is worth a tenth. And a tenth is basically a car Lenth at the track. when talking about average street cars. I don't think 3 lengths is unreasonable.

He said they are both novices.

Doesn't matter novice or pro, still a drivers race ... The cars are evenly matched.

I tend to agree with a driver's race. That axle back adds nothing but sound.

I test drove a 2013 Challenger RT with a 5.7 liter Hemi before I ever set foot in a Camaro. No data except what I felt, and I test drove the crap out of it, but the Camaro feels noticeably faster than the Challenger did. But my Camaro has better tires than the Challenger I was looking at did. Also I just now realized you said vert....
Hopefully you guys get some video and share it here. Have fun and be safe

You got this, unless you completely fall asleep at the light or mess up somehow.

Who has axle back exhaust? His is stock and mine is the ATAK cat back which is far less restrictive and waaaay lighter.

Stock heavy exhaust with giant resonator:

Stock anchors, I mean mufflers:

Full stainless Borla with X-pipe and small mufflers:

Thanks guys. I'm lighter with more power and most likely better tires. What I wasn't sure of was the rear end and automatic trans ratios and how that might affect acceleration.

Every race is a drivers race. But the cars aren't evenly matched. The Challenger R/T comes with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 rated at 372 hp and 400 pound-feet of torque with the 5-speed automatic. Base Curb Weight 4041. Before the convertible weight is factored in. Camaro SS L99 uses the 6.2-liter V8 good for 400 hp and 410 lb.-ft.of torque. Curb weight is 3860 before convertible weigh is factored in. So the SS is 180 pounds lighter. And has a 28HP advantage. That's an easy 3/10ths:iono: advantage.

I test drove a R/T a couple of years ago....it is not as fast as my L99 was stock.....I drove the crap out of it and it is noticeably slower. Hanmer down on both and you feel the weight of the Challenger.
