Who is considering canceling their 2012's?

I just want to express how disappointing it is to be waiting for a car for months only to find out it's going to be upgraded for 2013. The fact that there will be a touchscreen on a car that maybe comes out 1-2 months later is frustrating. I don't want to hear those of you that talk about "you'll never get a car if you wait for next years updates." This is not a very intelligent comment for this situation because the 2013 comes out a couple of months after the 2012. Also, there those of you that talk about how the 2012 will give you a "permagrin." Wouldn't the 2013 do the same, but with better options? Companies shouldn't update a car that isn't even in the hands of the customers. This is a fail by GM. To me there are a couple of options, and I'd like to know what you guys would do of you were me.

1. Cancel 2012 and wait for 2013.
2. Cancel order all together, keep SS, and keep around 35k cash.
3. Wait it out and hope GM offers the touch screen as an option for the 2012 ZL1.

Primarily, I'd like to hear what you guys are doing to see if I am the only one who is disappointed.

If you want one of the first, of what appears to be, a legendary auto, get a 2012. If having the first on your block doesn't matter then exercise another option. I got an early Boss 302, and only that fact keeps me happy while looking at the updated '13 Boss colours and options. I have to side with those who say there's always better. So unless being "first" is important to you, kill your order, but know this a year from now, you'll probably still wish you waited for some feature or upgrade yet to be announced.

Dude its the automotive world, it happens all the time. I have a 2008 Denali, in 2009 the Denali got a better transmission, bluetooth, cooled seats, and a standard heated steering wheel. No matter what year you get they are going to do something sweet the next year to piss you off. I would not be upset if I had a 2012 ZL1 on order unless the 2013 had a huge HP gain.

I'm not willing to cancel my order after all this wait time over a 7" screen ... Everything else will be the same, except the MSRP will probably go up.

I am not dissapointed , you are talking about getting a car first that has the possibility of becoming an investment and a showcar not to mention taking it out to the track or strip. What sounds better (I got a ZL1 the first year it was made), or (I got a ZL1 the second year it was made). Every new model year of a car will receive improvements, unless you can afford to buy a new one every year, you will never be happy. If the touchscreen is the issue, than maybe you should by an IPAD and not the car.

honestly I don't understand why anybody would put any stock into a radio. I have had 4 factory nav's to date and have all sucked compared to aftmarket IMO. the one is my Z06 was $1800 and won't do half of what my $600 avic unit will.

I am more getting paranoid about not getting a 2012. the only reason i would cancel my order is if I could order a 2013 at invoice as opposed to paying MSRP for a 2012.

If it something that is really going to bother you every time you look or get into your car, then I say cancel the 12 and get the 13. For me, my 12 is built and waiting for it's ride to South Florida. If the 7" screen and MyLink turns out to be something that simply cannot live without, then I will consider upgrading the radio/headunit. But for me, I do not want to get back in line again and wait.

I know my opinions are so anti-fan boy, but Chevy takes my dollars as happily as those they get from the most devout. Some people here remind me of the Animal House scene "Thank You Sir may I please have another"!!!

Yes I am disappointed, but it was expected to some degree that the 2013 would not just be a 2012 with a different model year only. I REALLY love that new touch screen, and I will pay to upgrade next year or sooner. But this is the price I pay for wanting to be first. I will buy the 2012, and honestly if that is the only difference to 2013 I will be pleased.

One part of the equation possibly missing from this is the 2013 MSRP. I am assuming that could change as well. It may increase so that the difference may be MORE than getting a 2012 and adding the touchscreen, who knows?

What I do know is that Chevy & GM have put me through quite a bit with this vehicle for the honor of giving them 60K. What I would LOVE to see (but I know they are not customer loyal enough to do) is to offer the 2013 upgrades at a reasonable upgrade cost to those that stuck with the 2012.

We will see, but I will take my 2012 nonetheless barring any further major GM faux pas.

For what it's worth I cancelled mine but bought a vette.

hognutz 03-27-2012 02:15 PM

yeah I think the people thinking the touch screen is not going to cost more $$ are dreaming. If it costs money and will most likely be backwards compatible just add itl ater. Adding a deck is 1 hr job.

I would much rather have the car now without touchscreen that wait. the issue that is killing me is what will be the difference between a late year 2012 vs early 2013 in delivery time? cause it is looking Like I will be late in the year.

motorhead 03-27-2012 02:18 PM

I'm not buying a 580HP sub supercar to worry about looking at a screen. It means nothing to me.

The point is that GM dragged their feet, kept their mouth shut and negatively surprized everyone but adding features to the 13 when the 12 is not even out yet. It's like spitting in the face of all the people that put money down and waited 5 months. Then they give the same interior and wheels to the 1LE which cost 30% less money! So I pay to have the top of the line/unique car just to find out that 5 months later it looks like a regular car. That's great marketing, unfortunately agains the customers for ZL1.

This will be my first GM car and so far I'm very dissapointed with their approach. I pray to God that it's as good as they say it is when I drive it, otherwise I'll drop it in a hurry. Maybe they'll finally do something to positively surprize us soon. I think it's overdue. Sorry, I'm running out of patience here.
