Which rim is this?
I went to install my newly bought Michelin Pilot Sport tires today. The tech pulls me over to the balancing machine and says "do you feel any vibration while driving?"
Me: "no, nothing." Tech: "well, the rim is badly bent. Watch this:" and 'lo and behold, the thing was wobbling up and down like a basketball. It is badly deformed. The right wheel was deformed even worse. The previous owner must have hit the curb at speed! The rims I have are these: https://i.imgur.com/UzUVdQY.jpg I don't want replicas, I want the originals, with the "CAMARO" stamp in them. I only need to replace the front two rims. What is the GM part number? Are the stock ZL1 front rims 10" width? |

So it's part # 22798741. Were these stock ZL1 rims, or a ZL1-specific option? Quote:

They can be fixed. Find a local wheel shop that can straighten them.
Don't know where you are but there a shop right outside Nashville I have used. http://wheelrepairtn.com/ |

I found a local company 31 minutes away from where I live which specialises in rim repair. The accumulated knowledge on this forum is incredible. Boy am I glad I joined this forum of likeminded Camaro enthusiasts. |

Is this semi-gloss, satin, or some other type of a finish? What type of can spray finish works with these rims for touch-ups? |
They are satin black. Did they get scratched while being straightened?

I accidentally cut too close to a sharp corner curb in my driveway with the right rear tire, while I was trying to avoid cutting too close to the parapet with the front left corner (since I can't see it for shit and I'm completely dependent on my spatial feel and it was dark). Damaged a good chunk the tire sidewall, about two thumbs worth and scratched the rim, even though the tire had a rim protector. Luckily the rim protector bore the brunt of it. $430 USD for a new tire, balancing and installation and another $24 USD for an acrylic matte Black spray. I sanded down the rim at the scratched spot with wet 800 grit sandpaper and applied four coats of paint while waiting for the new tire to come in. I did quite a bit of blending since the paint I bought isn't a 100% satin black replacement. One cannot tell where the rim had been scratched unless one knows that it had been and one is looking for it very carefully. |
