Is it the beginning of the end... again?

2016 Chevrolet Camaro Sales Plummet With Mustang.

Not surprising since the Gen6 is not making nearly as much hype and interest as the Gen6 did. I believe that the Mustang and (to a lesser part) Challenger sales rode the coat tails of the Gen5 sales.

Even though the Gen6 is "better" it like is out hyped by the C7. Even if I had the money, I would not trade my Gen5 for a Gen6. Only so many dollars to go around.

I agree with some of the above. I will add, GM is pricing themselves right out of the market. A local dealer has a 16 coupe SS priced at 49k, for a car that should be at most 40k.

Get me a cloth seats coupe SS with a manual for 35k. If I was in the market to replace my Gen 5, I would be looking hard at a Mustang GT.

P.S. Stop with the AFM forever GM. Not one single SS customer wants this crap in their cars.

also the trade in on the 5th gen tanked. when they only offered me $22k for a 12 2SS with 14k miles i dropped wanting a 6th gen. I dont see why it dropped so much. you cant replace it for another $15k

The sales number show a different story.

What a dumb article too. It offers nothing.

The article states the Camaro mustang and challenge have all seen drop in sales. Useless reporting......just make a flashy title and a shit article.

If I could fit comfortably in one I would get a Gen 6 in a Chevy Heartbeat.

The interior is too cramped for my 6'2" 275lb frame.

Low 12's right off the showroom floor is impressive.

Supposedly the airbag recall is causing resale values to dump on a lot of vehicles because of the wait time to get the problem resolved.

Anecdote time: I bought my '15 during one of GM's sales at the end of last year for a significant discount. Things that would steer me away from a '16:

-price difference
-first year as a new platform
-LT4 not being proven long term yet

I find the new 1LE appealing in some ways (same with the upcoming ZL1), but there's even a greater price disparity at that level.

I don't think GM is concerned one bit and here is why.

"DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors' second-quarter profit more than doubled to a post-bankruptcy record $2.87 billion on a strong performance in the U.S., where the company saw sales fall after it cut low-profit sales to rental car companies. It raised its earnings guidance for the year."

GM has been focusing on making a profit from every sale over the past few years even if that means allowing market share to slip and it is paying off on their bottom line as seen by the headline above. The number of vehicles sold is not as important as selling each one at a profit. Because the Camaro is on the shared Alpha platform it is spreading the development cost over more than one vehicle line, and as a result I would bet that Ford has to sell 2 to 3 Mustangs to make as much profit as the sale of one Camaro. (just a wild ass guess from someone that doesn't know jack)

The LT4 is the supercharged version in the new Z06, but I get what you're saying. The LT1 is in the Stingrays and the new Camaro SS's. Eh, they're still tried and true, push-rod GM V8's. They'll do fine. The price and the soft appearance is what gets me. As I stated in another thread, my dealer has two new '16 SS convertibles. Same as mine, only 5 years newer. If I'd want one, the difference in price from what I paid new in '11 is almost $10k more. :der:

I've never read much into the "debate" over the styling of the 10-13's vs. the 14-15's. I honestly think the 14-15's look better (not a huge change, but modernized it for me), and I truly like the Gen5's over the Gen6's. I think the styling just makes it look too much like other cars, and at the same time less like a Camaro (retro-wise).

I know it's viewed as a biased opinion, and so be it. Just not crazy about the Gen6's, but appreciate the loss of weight, and additional power of the new motor.

Didn't read the article, but as others have posted already, you can't just look at straight one for one sales. It's too simplistic an approach to a more complex economic issue.

Did you trade it in on another vehicle? If so, the profit they gained on the other vehicle influenced that trade. Although that trade-in value you received is indeed strange, as it appears you got a deal of a lifetime.
