#238 - UK based - project thread

Hi Guys, 1st post.

I've been on the hunt to import a Z/28 into the UK for a couple of months. After much waiting, researching and saving funds I'm now just about in a position to buy.

I've been watching cars come and go on the market and have a pretty good idea of prices, but now's the time I try to find the 'right' car for me.

I wanted to post here to introduce myself, but also hoping any East Coast members could help me by keeping their eyes out for any cars they see that fit my requirements! :)
  • So I'm after a 2014/15 Z28.
  • Ideally under 10,000 miles.
  • Max budget $54,000 (before shipping, import duty etc)
  • Ashen Grey 1st choice, Black 2nd.
  • Tyres in good condition (I have seen some cars that have sat outside on forecourts for a while with cracked rubber)
  • Wickerbill a bonus.
  • No aircon? No problem!
  • Not too put off by modifications as long as they have been done right.
Shipping ports would be NYC or Miami, Houston is also possible but a little more expensive (and longer to wait for the car on the water).

Look forward to joining the Z/28 owners ranks soon!

kind regards,
Patrick

600 miles from Miami. I dont know if that is a good price or not. Im not a Z28 guy.

I would highly recommend you find a couple dealers that have one with the Google and fly over here to verify in person what you're buying before you spend that kind of money shipping a car.

Yeah that was a big kick in the balls!

It wasn't quite that much but I'm keeping a close eye on it.

I agree with this...Or a fellow member could check it out for you if willing.

The Private Party sale I posted is one I be after.

Agree that this would be the ideal scenario. Sometimes the good cars come and go too quickly to make this feasible though! I'm going to be around Salt Lake City in a few weeks so I hope to find a few there to go look at and maybe take a test drive or two, but probably wouldn't put a deposit down there due to the added complexity/cost to ship over to the East Coast ports?

Hi thank you, the links work fine and it's good to find some more of the good US car sale websites. I agree the private sale looks both the best value and like it has been well looked after for those thousand miles!

There is a Ashen Gray one in California, but has more miles, and far from the east coast. Same website. Definitely on the PP sale...I think it was just listed too! :happy0180:

I know they aren't the exact colors but Autonation Chevy has 2 new ones in the Baltimore MD area. A white one in Timonium & a Red Hot in Laurel. May be an easy ship from the port of Baltimore.

I don't think your going to get one new at the price you listed. The Auto Nation cars have been around for some time now. When we had our big GM sales in November and April they would not budge on the bottom dollar. Your shopping for gently used at this point. You should find what your looking for pretty easily.

Good luck!

I just got my 2015 with 25 test miles and paid over 65k at a good new car dealer in Virginia Beach. It is Red Hot with all the options including A/C, Radio/Speakers, and Wickerbill.

With exchange rates the way they are and with import duty and registration costs to pay on top later, $55,000 is definitely my upper limit on budget, which as the guys have said puts me on lightly used examples which I don't mind.

Thought you might be interested in my car history as it's probably a little different to what's available over your side of the Atlantic :)

Lotus Exige S1, BMW E46 M3 (pictured at the ring), Locost7 (w/ sequential 'box, pictured at Spa), Renaultsport Megane R26, Renaultsport Twingo, Mitsubishi Evo IV, and my first car a 1275cc Mini!

(plus a few boring ones I've ommited)

Plans for the Z/28 are definitely to take it to the Nurburgring and Spa Francorchamps! :burnrubber:
