Good review of the 169* thermostat and the 160* thermostat. I too tried the Lingenfelter 174* thermostat and found it was not much different than stock. I like the 160* at the strip, as you saw it never goes above 185* in the staging lanes.

I think you'll be pleased - it's a nice middle ground between stock and the 160*F. I've found the same, since installing the cam my car runs a good 6-8* warmer. That may be in part to adding the 25% under-drive in my case. A 160*F probably would be ok for my application now - but I'll hold judgement till I get to drive it in cooler weather again with the cam.

Hello there acammer, well we installed the stat this morning and right off to bat I noticed a big difference in the temps. Seems to work well with the fan settings my tuner has on the car, low on at 196, high speed on at 201 and they shut off at 192. The little driving on the hot Florida heat today that I did, it was 90 today, the temps in traffic never went above 196, which it usually goes to 199-201 when I stop, getting going again it would drop back down to 192 real quick and then 1 time I noticed it went down to 185 at 45mph in traffic and it has NEVER been that low ever since I have had the car. Then the storms came and never got to get out on the highway to see what temps she shows cruising at 55 and above, so that will be tomorrow's plan. So again, thanks sir for the great info and will keep you all posted. Cheers. :w00t:

OK, so we went highway driving today for a bit today with the new stat in there and getting going from the house without any spirited driving, I'm cammed and stlalled so it's kinda hard to not drive hard, but I resisted. It was 81 degrees and very humid when I left the house and got on the highway and cruised at 50mph, that's the speed limit and it took a while bit the temp got to 185 and stayed there, dropped back down to 182 for a bit then I had to slow down to go over beachside, slower speed not much airflow, temps went up to 190 cruising at 40mph, once I got back up to 50-55 for abit the temps came back down to 185 and stayed there, even for a bit I saw it go down to 178, stayed there for a few then came back up to 182-185 and stayed there. Over all this car has NEVER ran this cool and I am very please with the stat and the temps I am seeing!! So thanks acammer for posting your review!! Cheers all !

you might have a few air pockets that haven't made their way out but those temps sound good! i've seen my coolant temps dip into the 170's on the highway recently and it'll settle around 180 on a steady cruise.

i've got stock cam/internals and a hood vent, so your results might be different. but either way it sounds like you've got it set up well

yea maybe so in the air, but haven't really cruised very long above 55 as the area was short, gotta take her on the interstate next and cruise at 70 or so. The other thing my tranny cooler is right smack in the middle of my radiator and I think it is cutting down on the air flow to it. But yea, I'm happy with it..

Glad you guys are finding this review and it's helpful. It really is the perfect middle ground between the 160*F stats, which are a bit too cool IMO, and the stock piece, which definitely tends to keep things a bit warmer than ideal.

In the same line of thinking - if you're doing drag strip duty, it's pretty easy to "hot wire" the low speed fans to be constantly on. While you're waiting in the staging lanes it's great to have those fans constantly blowing and keeping the air moving under the hood. Yeah, once I read this review, I was sold. Just put mine in tonight and it hung at 178-180 but I’ve only got a stall. It warms up when you step on it, which as most of you know happens a lot lol. Thanks acammer!

I have this t-stat as well. i also run about the same fan settings as acammer, IIRC.

The t-stat works great. It keeps my car below 200* in the staging lanes on hot summer days, which is what I wanted.

That being said, the first Mishimoto t-stat I installed stuck closed within a week of installing it. It left me stranded on the side of the road. I did eventually receive a replacement, but Mishimoto customer service absolutely sucks. They had plenty of time after I submitted my warranty claim to get me a new t-stat before my next race. They absolutely dropped the ball, then acted like it was my fault.

For a company that touts themselves as a "racing company", they sure don't make any special effort to get a race car back on the track after THEIR part fails. No way I'm spending any more money with that company. Shame because I was contemplating a new radiator.

Thanks for the info. I would like to know how did you install the cutouts behind the axles. It seems to make more sense to do it that way.

I agree, it's a way better placement than under the car where the rattle the whole inside to death and the fumes are right underneath you. Here's a couple pictures to give you an idea on how I did it, pretty straight forward.

Thanks, are those manual cutouts you have?
