constant 12v for cigarette lighter socket

Had some members ask me about my mod for the cigarette lighter so here are some picture that partly show the simple fix. There is a 12v constant wire already in the wire bundle if you just remove the shift plate/gauge cluster plate from around the shifter. It easily removes by pulling up. The 12v constant wire is the red wire with the white stripe. Just remove about 1/4 inch of the wire coating on the red/white wire and remove the green wire and red/white wire from the plug harness. Strip back the green wire and wrap it around the exposed part of the red/white wire. Put heat shrink tubing over both wires and heat. Insert the red/white wire back into the original spot in the plug. Wrap the whole thing back up as it was and enjoy!!

What wire/circuit is that tapping into? When it blows what will it take with it.

It's on it's own I have tried to trace it but it seems like nothing is there..it has worked for 3 years with no issues..really simple mod too!!

Note that the red/wht wire is not in all cars (UMQ option).

Gotcha

Awesome works. Left some of the Green wire for remote turn on power to future accessories (capped off of course).

Just to clarify, contant 12v means that my 12v socket with work with the car off?

If so I'll see if my car has that wire and get it working while I have that cover off.

Four-pack gauges.

That has to be one of the most annoying factory features.
Thanks for digging into this for the fix!

I assume this will make the rear lighter plug hot in back of console

adamx 01-11-2016 10:19 AM

yes does this affect both plugs or just one?

Just that one. Did this mod and my center console lighter is still ignition only

On another note, if your supplying power to an ignition circuit, when that circuit is supposed to be off, doesnt that mean your supplying everything ignition controlled with power? Electricity will back flow. May wanna check that. Just bc you can doesnt mean you should.
