Is the V6 Consisdered a muscle car?

My brother keeps throwing in my face, for one its not a V8. HE liked it when he thought it was a v8. Also he keeps going its not a muscle car and compares it to the old classics. He said dont even try to tell me its a muscle car. So..is it? Any good points to throw back at him to support that it is?

Technically no. Back when "muscle cars" were still around small engine cars weren't making enormous power.

Technically..it is, but isnt a "proper" muscle car.

Hell, even the base Charger and Challenger had a slant six as base engine..the Mustang started with a straight six.

So..yes, but no?

Tell your brother to get his car out and see.

philipdistefano 05-06-2010 05:46 PM

Tell him you'll race his V8 Camaro.

OH WAIT, HE DOESN'T HAVE ONE. ;)

CamaroCowboy 05-06-2010 05:48 PM

Technically it's a "Pony Car"

If the V6 is not a muscle car then no car will less then 312hp now or in the past can be considred one I guess

It wasnt based on HP rating, but on it being a V8, not a V6

Here we go again... who cares what he thinks, just enjoy your car.

BTW what does HE drive?

Camaro Freak 05-06-2010 05:55 PM

Yes its a muscle car. Especially when it will out run alot of the older Camaro V8's out there. Your brother is probably a little jealous. With 312 hp I say, Damn right its a muscle car, want to go for a ride????

I fail to see how that matters. It's the amount of muscle, not the amount of cylinders. 312HP is muscle, even if it's not as much as 400/426HP.

It took a really well-driven showroom-stock '67-'69 Z28 to run the 1/4 mile in the mid-14s...a time the V6 can match...

Pony Car is probably the proper term of reference for ALL Camaros/Mustangs/Challengers, like it was "in the day"...

Muscle Car is almost a generic term, today, but originally related to a back-seat-usable, Big Block-powered "Intermediate" or bigger car...GTO, Malibu SS396/454, Roadrunner, Torino Cobra, AMC Machine etc.

An SS427 Impala or COPO Malibu was a "musclecar", a COPO Camaro was a "ponycar", a 427 Vette was neither...

W30 Olds, yes. W31 Olds, kinda-sorta...

The lines are simply blurred today...

so a 69 Camaro with a 200HP 307 V8 2 barrel carb single exhaust and a powerglide was a muscle car? I don't think so.
