Iphone users that have XM/Sirius

Just in case a new iPhone model and OS 3.0 weren't enough goodies for this week, Sirius XM support team members are sending emails out announcing the company's long-awaited iPhone / iPod touch app will finally seeing the light of day and will launch this Thursday, June 18th. We just got off the phone with a customer service rep who confirmed the letters are legit, so unless there's some communication breakdown on the corporate ladder, looks like it's really, finally coming. It'll be available as a free download from the App Store, but those who subscribe to the gratis Basic Online Service will have to upgrade to the $2.99 monthly premium plan to have it on the go. We're a bit light on other details -- we can't imagine it being as full-featured as the standalone receivers -- but it's a good bet we'll have all our questions answered before the week is out.

Im thinking you may be able to play it from your Iphone through the car speakers via the usb cable.

Yeah that would be sweet. Hope this pans out. Be cool to see how it works!

Wait, so why would this be better than playing XM through the head unit (or is that some of the sarcasm you speak of? If so, then Bravo....Just making sure I'm not missing something)

I streamed XM from Moodio on my phone and the stream quality isn't that great. Its only as good as your 3G connection.

Actually no sarcasm this time  . I already have XM in my home/truck .The little reciever pops out of the cradle for my home theater ,and fits in the cradle in my glove box on the envoy. This way.i dont have to add another reciever to listen in the Camaro.Should save people some money.

this will fail, with apps like Pandora for the iphone this XM junk is just a waste of money. I guess if there is a particular talk show on XM you have to listen to then its cool. In all honesty XM is garbage and a waste of money--Satellite radio eludes me....

Most people don't have an iphone, heck a lot of people aren't in atnt coverage areas.

But yes, eventually internet radio will make satellite radio obsolete, but that's at least 5 years away from being a solution on a wide scale.

As for it failing, the app isn't meant to be some sort of revenue generation, it's just a way for existing xm customers to listen to it on their iphone.

Not just AT&T coverage but AT&T 3g coverage. There's a big difference!

But the camaro already has a receiver built in, no? or is XM set up so that if you wanna use it on more than one receiver, you need more than one subscriptions? if so, thats just one more reason for me NOT to ever pay to listen to the radio lol.

Yeah, it came out, but it's Sans-Howard Stern.

I have an old beta version of a Sirius player for my Microsoft Smartphone; works like a charm playing over the bluetooth stereo connection in the Camaro....and the player streams Howard 100 and 101!

When Pandora hits automobile radios... XM will be in big trouble

CmB 06-23-2009 03:47 PM

Seems silly that they limited the channel options on the app. I would have used it if it were not for the loss of channels. Personally, the quality of their packages has gone down hill since the merger. This "BEST OF" package crap is silly. Come up with one set of channels and be done with it.

With streaming media now gaining ground they better get their act together.

To be honest, I don't see why GM can't integrate pandora into vehicles with OnStar (which is basically a CDMA modem). Granted it would be a lot of data used but they could charge for it.

every serial number you register needs a subscription, for this all you need is the username and password that you use to log in to XM/Sirius' site.as long as your not on the cheapskate plan.
