ls3 questions
 

stepping out of the LS1 world into the LS3 world and i have a million questions lol:help:

just picked up a brand new l92 shortblock with the correct reluctor wheel for my application and im looking at some simple upgrades while the motor is open.

are the pistons pressed on or do they use the little clip thing? more specifically, would i have to go to a machine shop to swap pistons or could i do it in my own garage?

and a quote from texas speed on their heads/cam packages...

"When selecting your camshaft, please keep in mind that the largest camshaft you can run on a factory LS2 or LS3 short-block is our 231/236, .641"/.615", 112 LSA camshaft! "

thats not very big at all! well, a good size but for it to be the LARGEST possible sounds crazy to me.

the reasoning for these questions. while it's new, i figure i can throw in some forged pistons with valve reliefs so i can step up the cam size. also some rod bolts while its all easily accessable. has anyone done this yet? im wanting about a 11.0:1 compression l92 with a stout cam. looking at a 250 wet shot on stage 2.5 l92 heads and fast 102mm. the matching of pistons/milling heads to get the compression and cam size im after is rocket science to me though lol. can someone point me in the right direction?

the rest of the combo will be a 4,000 converter, 4.10 or 4.30 gears, 1 7/8 to 2" kooks with true dual 3" through x dumped and full typical bolt on's. 4,500 race weight lol.

dang...even on a ls3 forum the info is limited lol. well i figured out everything on my own. full floating pistons and there is aftermarket support for forged pistons.

I recommend going to a Corvette forum, they've had more time with LS3's than Camaro owners have had.
