ya I don't doubt it, the ZL1 and 1LE tires are not cheap either.

mlee 04-01-2013 01:59 AM

I would have aftermarket wheels and tires for the street with the Z/28.

Not a fan of the stock wheels anyway.

On the Goodyear site, it has the ZL1 OEM tire MSRP at like $590. I'm sure they'll be able to be had for cheaper

The Trofeos are extremely rare, so I don't think we'll see a huge price drop on them.

Mr Twisty 04-03-2013 06:21 AM

$538 at Bob Woodman

I thought the turn signals were the DRLs on non RS cars?

No. The actual lights are the DRLs. I think :iono:

Yes, the actual headlights are on as DRL's on non-RS cars (like mine), and presumably the 2014 Z/28s.

The DRL are separate...just inboard of the headlight.

Yep. And you better use them only on track days. If someone uses these tires on the street, they might get 3000 miles out of them.

What? Those wheels are sweet!

Small price to pay if you can afford the car and actually use it (AKA competition use). The Z/28 will probably hang with the Z06/Z07 (with Cup tires) on most road courses.....maybe even the ZR1. The stock Z/28 tires are a big reason for this.

HMM looking at the tread of them, they seem to be Pirelli's answer to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Tyres...

I agree. The new generation of DOT Track Tires (Dunlop SportMaxx, Pilot Sport Cup, P-Zero Trofeo R, etc.) are incredible. I agree with the earlier post about the necessity of having two sets of wheels/tires. From my experience that makes things a lot easier, and ensures the longevity of the track set.

When it comes to cost, on my last track car I could usually get 5-7 track days out of the tires. I felt it was worth the expense, as the tires helped transform the car.

The Z/28 is designed around these tires. I'm sure it will still do great on something like a Pilot Super Sport (I haven't checked available sizes on that), but it will really shine on the Trofeo Rs. I'm going to see how this goes, expense-wise. If my intuition is correct and the Z/28 results in me doubling my track time, then I may have to rethink my tire budget...

You gotta love First World problems like these, eh?
