Mosler Safe Is Open But Don't Know Combination
3 Attachment(s)
So we moved into a new house and they left this big safe. Any way I can change the combo myself or do I need a locksmith? I don't know much about safes what should I do? Also how much is this safe worth because I want to sell it.
Edit: Well I just got to trying it almost a year later lol and it wasn't too bad I unlocked it! Took less than an hour. But it's weird it's 5 digits instead of the usual 4. On the fourth number I hear it click but won't open then I have to turn it the opposite way like 7 notches so it will open. That's a fine safe. Mosler went out if business in 2001. It is well worth paying a locksmith a few hundred dollars to open the locks for you. Did the previous owner not know the combination? If I were close to you I would ta me it off your hands.

Have you tried taking that silver plate held on with two screws behind the tumbler off? You might be able to seethe tumblers line up and figure out the combination from there.

You can do it. Depends on the mechanism and how handy you are.
Probably looks similar to this... Attachment 894105 since you have access to the lock set you can figure out the combo |
How much is it worth if I figure out the combo?

$500 at most, if you find an anxious buyer.
$350 to $400 I'd say. That's just based on cursory search - do you have a model number? |
That's about right. That's actually a better safe than most of the new crapola. I'd keep it and use it for important papers. It may have a pretty good fire rating.

I hope it's worth a bunch, it might be i really have no idea, but folks usually don't leave things of value, sometimes you get lucky though.
one grand will get you something new like this: https://www.costco.com/BIGHORN-Safe-....11468049.html I'm not an expert by any means on safes or Mosler safes, but I seen one Mosler that looks like yours on ebay (NOT SOLD) for $500. For me, i'm the type of guy that would spend the extra $5 bills for a new, bigger, felt lined, 70 minute fire safe that I can store guns in. And actually, the one I posted I have. If you can get a locksmith out for $50 bucks, ok great deal. but if you are spending $200 to $300 on locksmith...not worth it IMO. Now, if that mosler has a certain thickness of a steel plated door, it may be worth it. The one I have, and most around the same price do not have a steel plate, to get a safe the that size with a decent steel plate, $3000+ range. |
The bigger question here is, now that you have a house, are you gonna have to change your username?
