$1150 bucks in Oklahoma. The first tag (excise tax) is figured at 3.25% of the sticker. The next tag is 95 bucks and slowly goes down from there over time.

Some states have a personal property tax on vehicles. Other states include their wheel tax on the license plate fee. Others yet will just have a small plate fee.

I have lived in states that have had $25 plate fee (but with property tax varying on assessed value of vehicle ... tax as low as $1.25/yr to $500ish/yr) ... plate fee with wheel tax of around $150/yr ... and plate fee of $79/yr.

Tax rates vary community to community. Tax rates also vary based on what other taxes are available (and the amount of revenue they collect from those other sources) ... for example, the state may have a higher sales tax, or income tax ... or may make up the revenue on real property tax (on real estate/houses and/or cars) ... or through higher corporate taxes (which may discourage companies from building/employing there). Lots of other "causes" for higher/lower plate fees... but is all about collecting tax revenue to provide the other services.

If we don't pay in one area, we pay in another ... or we do without the state/federal services! :D

And this isn't meant as a slam mike25, I figure you are getting hit harder for tax money in another area.

I only pay $89 in Ohio to renew personalized plates. It's only 34.50 without the personalized plates. It's 8.25 extra for new plates.

Mine were 750

I'm in CO too and it's alot - I spent $850 after I bought my SS in 2009 and around 800 last year. It goes by how much the vehicle is worth. I'm going to have to fork out another 7 and change next year probably.

CO SUCKS on registration fees!

Does it go by the car sale price or the price after everything is done?

Is this your first car in Denver? Should be the same as last year unless you personalized your plates.

boltmark 10-01-2011 09:21 PM

What kind of stupid question is this? Have you not ever own a car in Denver before?

bajamoon 10-01-2011 09:27 PM

OMG Co is high. I thought Cali was high and the first year is around 450 and down 15-20%, can't remember.

Thanks, some of the questions on this site just blow me away.

Really?

cmb74656 10-01-2011 10:10 PM

Mine cost $182.90. But that tag was transferred from my truck and renewed for 1 year. If it were a completely new tag, say, if it was someone moving here from another state, or adding a second vehicle, it costs around $500 now.

DarkAceXXX 10-01-2011 11:31 PM

i owned more then one car in colorado but nothing new and if you don't like to answer that's all good. And thanks to you guys im gonna call monday and see what they say.
