There was initially no intention on selling these to the public. If there was enough interest gauged, I think this would be possible.

I chatted with LSR, it seems that the '13 1LE may have a smaller thread diameter, 14mm. If you guys make the correct body in 16mm, that would be the only correct body available for us electric power steering guys with the 16mm threads(1LE, ZL1, Z/28)

;);)

Yes, this is what I did with the kit that I made for myself. At a later time I may put together a "group buy" to gauge interest for a small production run of these.

Shortblock is officially assembled. Today's work will include disassembling cylinder 1's valves, installing checker springs, and then checking for PTV and vertical valve drop numbers. I have an excel mathematical model that can estimate this using a best fit polynomial, but a model can only be used for estimation purposes. It is always best to check the physical numbers using the proper measurement tools. I should have this engine complete in the next couple of days. Stay tuned.

A warning to anyone running ARP cam retaining plate bolts: The ARP bolts are ~2mm too long, they protude into the block where the crankshaft is. I had a small burr on the crankshaft counterweight that actually interfered with this fastener. I had to disassemble the entire shortblock, deburr the crank, and grind off the end of the bolt to make sure that I had no clearance issues.

Other than that, there haven't been any hiccups. Bearing clearances are perfect and I am ready to roll with the rest of the build.

Craig,

The part number for the extended GM stud is GM-11588810.

An update to everyone: I am currently working on getting the car together. The engine was broken in on the chassis dyno. I am experimenting with some new camshaft lobe families on my engine so we will run powerpulls when the latest and greatest camshaft grinds come in.

A quick update:

It has been awhile, work has been very busy which has been a good thing! The car is back together, everything is healthy. The engine made 600/570 on our engine dyno without going full kill mode during break-in. I am hoping to get the chassis setup and chassis dyno numbers sometime in the next couple of weeks. I am very excited to get this car back on the road for good.

Stay tuned!

Any updates? :) great work so far on this build.

I have my eye on a few Katech goodies to complement my Redline package in the future. Ported/flowed throttle body being one of them (not looking for more horses, but any improvement in driveability/throttle response would be nice!)

Katech_Zach 11-01-2019 08:46 AM

Lots of updates to come, I recently got back from a trip to the Tail of the Dragon. The car held up great, the engine is bulletproof. I have put 3,000 abusive miles on the new build thus far. Throttle response is great and the torque is through the roof everywhere. The sport cup 2's on 19x11 HRE wheels are extremely grippy, it will be sad when I have to "downgrade" to a 200TW tire for SCCA Cam-C next season. I have the wheel specs dialed in for anyone that wants to order custom 19x11 wheels on all 4's utilizing stock struts, you may need camber caster plates for these though.

What I have done since the last update:
-Fabricated the new fuel feed lines for the Billet Rails (Katech Billet Rail Line Kit to come)
-Included option to run GM Flex Fuel sensor inline with these lines
-Installed Elite Engineering dirty side catch can
-Measured and ordered new spark plug wires for future Coil Relocation Kit
-Dead-on street alignment, track alignment to come
-Vehicle has basic street tune dialed-in
-New Katech Performance windshield banner + fender hashes

What I plan on doing over the winter:
-Fabricating Coil Relocation Brackets
-Installing Coil Relocation Brackets, my custom Katech valve covers, and my new motorsport grade wires
-Painting my strut tower brace black
-Wire flexfuel sensor
-Dial in tune on the chassis dyno
-Fabricate new airbox for air intake, the old one is falling apart

Hope everyone has been enjoying the end of the car season for those who have to store their vehicles over the winter like myself.
