The 4L80e showed up today, was interesting lifting it by myself at the terminal. I must have felt superhuman for a moment taking it off the pallet, because I damn sure couldn't lift it a second time once I got home to the house  it rode home in the passenger seat of the saturn truck

A6 Shifter should be coming later today from Gene@GMPartsHouse, going to convert that to work with the 4L so it all looks factory inside.

Nothing like direct fit factory parts to make life simple. Definitely going to be using my manual leather boot instead of the cheesy auto plastic gate though.

What's on their way from TSP? Small bore magic? Since no one has gotten any numbers on these, looks like I'm going to be the first to publish them.

did you use the optishift from jake and how much for the shifter...i am geting everything...you have ..lol..trying ton keep track of what i need from you..andy-mount..gmprts-shifter..am i missing anything so far?..thanks, dc

DietCoke 09-22-2011 08:21 PM

If jake says the optishift is good, then it is. I'll probably end up with that, but I'm not opposed to picking up a used TCI controller either (all about saving money). Holding out for a deal, since it's not a part I need for another few months. Engine Longblock/trans were first to come in, because I need them in to mock up everything important.

DietCoke 10-01-2011 04:34 PM

Today's work/parts. Summit box showed up, so got a little work done on the trans and mounting bits. Notice the trans cooler is as large as the flexplate. Big bastard.

The parts

The NPS --> 6AN fittings installed into the 4l80 with thread sealant

This stuff is BOSS.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...L/DSC04547.jpg

Also mocked up the trans mount loosely
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/n...L/DSC04548.jpg

And the trans mount with the crossmember and ADM Performance adapter plate, as it would sit in car. Looks like I'll have to clearance a little off the backside of the adapter plate, its very barely hitting the trans pan, if you can see that in the photo

And here's a couple shots of the modified (narrowed) case front with the ears trimmed off, to gain 2.5 inches of clearance, also can see the factory A6 linkage installed to the shift lever on the 4L80.

mikepage0007 10-01-2011 06:50 PM

chris, i,m sure your not there yet, but is there a way to use the tranny temp gauge in the 4 pack with the 4l80..also , if you get some spare time.could you jot down a list of things needed for this...flexplate-shifter-trans cooler-trans mount....thanks for the help..

DietCoke 10-01-2011 07:55 PM

Yeah I'll make a parts and cost list if you want. Surprised no one on here has made one, but most of the swaps I've seen are all shop swaps, and none done at the house like me. I'm not sure how the four pack gets signal (well, where) for the trans temp, but the M6 temp sensor should be able to be mounted on the 4L80 (all trans/oil temp sensor/senders are common across late GM cars), I'll look into solutions for that. It might have an internal sensor that gets logged by the standalone controller, im not sure.

mikepage0007 10-01-2011 08:01 PM

appreciate chris, and you are correct, i know i can get some answers from andy and cincy spped from jason,s build...but sometimes shop guys don,t want to tell everything since there not getting $$$ for it...don,t really need a price , i just need to log all your parts and get a list...i forgot all about the flex plate till i saw your pics...thats when i decided to hit you up...i been logging a list from your build, might might of missed some stuff...no rush ...subscribed...def interested in gauge as i,m sure you have a 4 pack gauge also..would be nice to utilize...jason did not know , since he has not seen car from cincy speed yet..

mikepage0007 10-01-2011 08:05 PM

i think that if you did a nice write up when done , maybe you could get a sticky post in the drivetrain forum...i,m sure a good write up and list for conversion would be a help to others and you could submit to the mods..it would def be very helpful for others looking to do swap...just a idea..guys like you are what makes camaro5 such a good thing..thanks again
