Engine swap is under way
The engine swap is under way. Pulled the 402 Out of the Camaro and am in the process of installing it into the 72 K5 Blazer. Soon the Camaro is going to have a 500 horse 427 resting under the hood.

Don't know why I can't see the pix again...
I can't either, but I just figure it's because I'm on a DoD computer. They won't let me look at hardly anything.
BTTT
Can you all see the pictures now? :iono: Trying to fix my mess-up... |

I'm curious having never done an engine swap myself...i'm sure I could do it, if I could figure out how to get the engine out of the freaking car! What is the most common way people do that?
Ya that is guna be a fast camaro man. but i have a 97 base model camaro thats gettin kinda old. it still looks real clean but the engine and tranny are goin. So i was wonderin what would be a good engine to drop in it. i was thinkin an ls1 but i dont think i can find them new anymore
Can't wait to see the 427 installed! nice sign too!

Engine Hoist. You can rent them at some local Auto Parts stores. Pull the motor and tranny in one piece. Take 'em a part, lift the motor up to an engine stand bolt 'er up and start disassembly.

Yeah...but in most cases, it's a lot more than just a swap. Tranny usually has to be changed, larger radiator, and a whole mess of other beefier parts. When putting twice the power (or in some cases more) to the ground, you need to start thinking about all the suspension parts and rear end as well. But, for just swapping the engine and going larger, there will usually be a lot more than just the engine that needs changing.
Yeah you have to do all the supporting mods if you want your setup to last.
Damn...
It isn't too bad. You just have to make smart investments and really research the parts you need so you don't need to do multiple installs of the same part. It will save you money in the long run.
Engine swaps are always a hassle unless you are replacing you engine with the exact same engine ie small block to small block, big block to big block. Computer controlled engines are a whole different breed because of the ECM/PCM (Computer) and wiring harnesses. GM is really good about interchangeable parts on the earlier SB and BB. I on the other hand, am running into clearance issues with the Big Block. Come to find out I have more room in my Camaro than I do the Blazer… :iono: Time and patience, that’s all it takes…

The only reason I'd approve of a complete engine swap is if the car is so old - milage OR age, whatever, and the car couldn't go on. |

On the other hand if you have one of 100,000 who cares. I think it is a personal accomplishment to take something you love and make it better. It's something that you can look at and take pride in knowing that you did it. Way to go Killer!!! More people should have the courage to do what you are doing. JWz28. |
