Attachment 492278 ************************************************** **** Spindles: It was a hell of a PITA to detach the control arm from the spindle. I took it to my friend's shop from church. We first tried pressing it out but it was a no go. Attachment 492264 Finally after several failed attempts, we decided to give it heat and it finally popped. Attachment 492265 Since I am taking the complete suspension apart, I figured I'd detail everything! The spindle on the right is in progress with a lot more to do. The red circle on the left upright highlights two more humps that I will also be grinding off. The one that has a bolt hole is to mount the back plate for the stock brakes, but since I’m replacing them, there's no need for the extra ounces of aluminum, LOL... So I'm grinding it off. Attachment 492266 Here you can see a side by side comparison. The three humps were removed as they are just part of the casting process. Attachment 492267 Once I had them completely sanded. I polished them to a mirror finish. (Reference the one on the left) Next thing I did was to tape off the areas where bolts are going through. I didn't want to add paint to those areas and deal with the paint getting jacked up when I'd tighten the bolts. I sanded blasted them again to create paint adherence. (Reference the one on the right) Attachment 492268 Next came a light coat of etching primer. Attachment 492269 And finally ......... the finished product. I painted in a cast aluminum finish. |
You're getting really, really good at this. I'll be surprised after all this is done if you don't get a job offer from some high-end custom company. I can see some rich guy who wants a killer show car hiring you, or you may even open your own custom shop. Your work is starting to rival the best of anything I've seen anywhere. That "after" spindle should be in a glass showcase in a museum lol.

Amazing detail man. On a side note, how you liking that maxjax lift. I've read some decent reviews about them. I don't have high ceilings either.
:thumb: I love my race ramps (just for getting my low front end into my trailer). This kit would be very nice.
those ramps are so bad ass!
Those are nice but dam you'd need a seperate trailer just for the ramps.
Where did you order the race ramps from?
Looking good.

Quick update: Motor mounts I will say these mounts are very artsy for a factory piece. So I figured they could use some  Before......... This shows all the insignia that was removed. Attachment 493465 You can see seems in this picture that were removed. Attachment 493466 After......... much cleaner Attachment 493467 This one shows a lot of rough casting and grinding marks.... go figure Attachment 493468 Attachment 493469 Finally some color, powder coated in anthracite. Attachment 493470 In this second picture, you can see I replace the nut on the picture above with a ARP chrome molly 12 point. I'm using ARP for the entire project other than the sizes they don’t make. I added the cost off all the ARP bolts and was floored, Close to $3,000 in bolts  Attachment 493471 More updates tomorrow. |
