Camaro SS 2011 engine overheating
Hello folks,
I had problems with a bad fuel injector. I changed this one, also did an oil change and replaced the spark plugs. After I got the car back, the engine started to overheat. Usually when I get back into the city and am stuck in traffic. Coolant temp goes up to 240, once I even received a warning that the engine is too hot. First, the mechanic did replace the thermostat. As this did not help, I brought it back and this time the radiator was cleaned. The problem was still not fixed, so I brought it to another mechanic. That guy changed the water pump and the thermostat again. And now the engine still gets too hot. What else could cause this problem? |
Do you hear the fans come on?
|
Anything in the reservoir (overflow) tank?
|
So, no one verified that the cooling fans turn on? They don't turn on till
about 221 to begin with. Mine has an issue, getting hot, into the 240s, but never got the warning. When I would get out of the car, I could hear the water boiling/bubbling in the over-flow tank. The fill cap was worthless, was not holding any pressure at all, so when the coolant got hot, it all ran out into the over-flow. It also pancaked the upper rad hose when it cooled off. I replaced the cap with a new one, all was good. All you have left is the fans or bad cap. https://i.postimg.cc/wTwGwdQz/02-Old-vs-New-Notes.jpg |
Thanks guys. The fans work so I will change the radiator cap we well.

Before your mechanics started replacing parts, did they do a pressure check?
If your cooling system doesn't hold pressure, it will start boiling off at a lower temp. Physics. |

I did change the cap as well and today the coolant temp went up to 221° but than I reached my destination. The weather in general outside was cold today and only 83°. I will try to take it out for another ride the next days. |
Cooling systems are fairly simple. Either the stat ain't opening, the fans ain's kicking on, the pump ain't moving the water or it's leaking.
I'd personally run it parked, make sure to fill the reservoir and put the heater on for a few minutes while running, to clear any air. |

Am I just missing it, has the temp sensor been checked?
