Can you please explain what are good number for each test?
Fuel Trim: is it good or bad to have a positive or negative %
Timming: I know that less is safer for the engine, but less HP
Knock: dont have a clue
IAT and Temp Climb: best guess is that more heat is bad.

Hopefully you can clear this up for the rest of us that dont know THAT much about engine data.

thanks

JM

Just goes to show... Looks aren't everything.

The Hennesey wins the best looking...

Yes i can that is the # over or under what the E38 is set up at . So let say that the OEM is set up to run a 10 to 1 AFM it will be - or = that % number so you see If it is set up at 10 to 1 and is -5 it is running 9.5 to 1, and if its +15 it is running at 11.5 to one, if we know what it is running in the first place.

And to do that you need a wide band in the tail pipe or in the o2 senser.

I'm very happy to finally have some clear direction from an impartial tester. Thanks Jannetty. My order has already been placed for the intake that demonstrated the best overall performance, ease of install, price and appearance.

I think one further step in the process that would show a clear ranking would be to assign a 1-5 point system to each category so an overall "score" is arrived at.

Like the other guys, does fuel trim mean that if its in the negative it is using less gas and getting better MPG's while keeping power?:iono:

camaro1 10-20-2009 12:54 PM

i really would have liked to see a true cold air kit like the BWOODY kit,, they have been just keeping up with customer orders and do not have extra to send out at this time. hopefully another test in the future with units that did not make it for this test

I wonder how K&N and SLP would fare against these and other CAI's. Hmmm.

negative fuel trims mean that the engine is running rich and the pcm is pulling fuel away from its fuel calculation to get the o2 readings were it wants them

positive fuel trims mean the engine is running lean and the pcm is adding fuel to its calculations to get the o2 readings were it wants them

when in closed loop the pcm is constantly trying to keep the a/f around 14.7-1, the fuel trims are the computer modifying/adjusting to keep the a/f the same

thanks for pasting a pic up for us guys at work, I know which one i am buying now

yellow1 10-20-2009 01:09 PM

my impression of the results = CAI's are a waste of money. ~$400 to gain 5 hp?
I would rather set my hair on fire..

hot ss 10-20-2009 01:09 PM

gmpp should have submitted a air box as well.

same efficient package, with a better flowing dry filter.
as far as wasting money on 5 hp.....thats stock car tersting.
throw some headers and some boost into things, and see
what gains are to be had. the header guys prolly wont like
intakes hovering above the header.
i am getting my headers thermally coated to help keep exhaust gasses hotter,
and hopefully prolonging heatsoak a tad.
