5 years later Smog fail.

Hey guys I need your help. I'm from CA. I have a 2012 Camaro with 15,000 miles, it has a CAI cold air intake. I'm due for a smog. It failed on my first test telling me that I need the EO# for the intake or I can just put the old intake back and try again. Anyone here having problems with smog using CAI cold air intake? Any advise?
Thank you!

Did it actually not pass, or did they just fail you because of the CAI?

I had to reinstall my stock airbox to pass. It didn't even make it to the rollers before the guy said I needed a sticker or the oem box.

I would just install the stock intake, its really not that long of a process to do.

Last September I had to have my Camaro smogged for the first time. I had to remove my oil catch can and put the stock intake back on before it would pass the visual inspection. It passed with no issues. Only have to do it every other year, no big deal... Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the advise guys, i will just install the old intake. I also have MRT 2.0 exhaust. Will it also affect the smog result?

SSEssence 02-13-2018 01:11 PM

The exhaust will not matter as long as you have the stock cats intact

Same for me. First year I had to smog. Failed VISUAL, they refused to test because no CARB number for the CAI. (CAI's website says they were too cheap, or to lazy to request a CARB number). And then they did not like the 'vented oil cap' I said Valve cover was vented before I put on the cleanside catch. So, Every 2 years, back to stock for the test. Can't wait to escape California.

One of the few things I don't miss. State inspections...

Will tuning impact results? Doesn’t it as long as the car shows correct sensors and etc, it should pass regardless?

I have my muffler deleted. Hopefully that passes visual.

I wanna do CAI but need carb approved ones. Any recommendation?

Cali has it rough, here in TN all they do is check the pressure of the gas cap and check the OBD

If you failed smog don’t they put you in this black list?

I'm surprised to hear that. I have a 2011 with a catch can, ported throttle body and aftermarket exhaust and it passed with flying colors. The lady even remarked how low my numbers were after seeing the printout. I run with a K&N intake and hyper tech tune, but I took those off for the test. However, I am not in California, I don't know how different the tests are. Mine is tested yearly as well, this year they didn't raise the hood so I'm going to try leaving the K&N on for next years inspection to see the difference.

Numbers isn’t what fails it but rather visual. Just need to find a different smog place to test.
