turbo question-water and oil hookup for turbo
I am wondering where the best place is to hook up a water and oil supply for the turbo? I am mounting the engine transverse in a mid engine car and adding a turbo.
Thank you |
I'm sure someone on here can help you out, but I have to ask ..
Are you seriously putting the Camaro LLT 3.6 in a Lotus Elise ?? AND throwing a Turbo on it?? Because if so, that sounds awesome! |
For the oil most are building a manifold that bolts on to where the oil sending unit attaches. You'll need to of course fit the oil sending unit to the new manifold. I can't help you on the water part because mine are air cooled.

I planned to use the upper and lower radiator hoses for the water feed/return when I had water and oil fed ct26 turbos. The upper provides a vacuum for water return and the lower radiator hose is pressurized for water feed. JEGS sales radiator gauge adapters that could be clamped onto the hoses. http://www.jegs.com/i/Auto+Meter/105/2283/10002/-1
I think local autostores sale something similar for cheaper maybe. Just cut both hoses on a straight section and clamp the adapters in and your good to go. The only problem with this method is that some of the coolant won't be cooled since its bypassing the radiator through the turbo but I'm not sure of the net effect on the entire system. |

I take it you're fabricating up your own turbo? Or are you using an STS kit? If you're making your own setup, I'm sure other people would love more turbo options for the V6! Good luck! |
^using the 2.8V6 turbo manifolds, prob using the turbo. either way, with those heads are easy to turbo. this is going to be a SICK little car. good luck and keep up the pix. thanks.

Im really happy to see that people are using it in the "swap market" if you will :iono: i feel like this will force more after market to explode like the LS market has. our motors have all the potential in the world and its efficient and its lighter weight than a big V8
|
talking about efficiency. with what mods I do have on my 6, I get around 38 MPG @ 72 MPH, and 48 MPG @ 45 MPH. It's really nice to have a car with the power of an 8, and the efficiency of a "Prius" LOL!!!

No way! I just drove 600 miles and the best I did was 28.8 MPG at an average speed of 68 MPH and Temp around 91. And we both have a V6 RS. How do you get 38 MPG at 72 MPH? Are you going downhill? Sorry to go off topic. |

Derek, but you do understand what the concept of a lightweight car is? ;) I mean, putting a 3.6 Liter V6 in it isn't the way to go, imho. And yes, I know that Lotus will offer the Elise with the Evora's V6 engine next year, but all the Lotus drivers here are running mad about that. The car gets way too heavy. I run my Elise-based Opel Speedster Turbo with about 300hp now, at exactly 1950 lbs now (still getting lighter). Still the GM 2.0 V4 ecotec engine which came by factory, only changed turbo and some other stuff. Going to rebuild the engine in winter, swapping turbo to BorgWarner EFR and heading for about 400-450hp with still superb handling in the alps. So basically I get the same power as you do with the V6, but still saving a damn lot of weight. I wish you all the best for your project, but I am concerned that you can't keep the 2100lbs. Keep us informed!
