how much oil

one more dumb question, I usually change my own oil, I got lazy and had my first oil change done at one of those places, I watched all went well untill ---- how much oil do you put in this car, I looked at the owners book it says 8qts no way 8qts ok so here we go we got 7qts in and it was full, the next day I checked it after sitting all night and it's over the top hash mark by 1/4"

what do you think:grouphug:

nyrfan 06-05-2013 02:24 PM

if i let mine drain for a long time while i am waxing the underside i put in 8.5 but i use the zr1 filter

i have added 8.5 qts to both my dads and mine on multiple changes each and let them sit over night on my 4 post lift after they have been run for a few seconds and checked in the morning and topped off total is 8.5 qts to the very top of the hash marks

:offtopic: Curious.... waxing the underside....of your car? Details? Pics?

That is something new to me. My poor car is lucky to get wax on the topside. ;)

why look at the owners manual, and just put in 7 quarts?

ZO6 Bryan 06-05-2013 11:40 PM

I use 8.5 qts when road racing.

I had a similar experience. First change only took a little over 7 qts. Second one was 7.5. No idea why. Changed the filter both times.

6.2 liter takes 8 qts. I had my first change done at the dealer because it was free. Morons sent me out the door 2 qts low!

It amazes me what they can screw up.
