upgrade/general question

i have a 96 rs with the 3.8 v6 and i was wondering if it would be better the supercharge or turbo charge it and some advise on what to get. and where can i get good headers relatively cheap also i cant find this answer anywhere but do the 96 have an egr? and what are some other good upgrades for the rs for reasonably cheap. i went from a ford F250 to this rs so im just getting into the camaro community. i love the gas mileage of the v6 that is my main reason to keep it. im just trying to get the max potential HP and just all round power of the v6. i know i wont be able to get like 300+hp but i would like to reclaim lost hp and a little extra.

yes 96 has and egr. behind your throttle body on top of your intake, I would think a turbo on a v6 would be more suiting, on the other hand you have instant power on the supercharger but that is just my opinion.
they have a kit specific -equipped fourth gen Camaros, making the install simpler.

if just looking for cheap upgrades, gotta go intake and exhaust, wont add much power but it will feel a little better

if you have someone else do the work you are looking at 1k for a good turbo system then the labor, or supercharger, then a tune, whatever more that costs, think about what it will cost in all, then id consider if its more feasible to go to a v-8, there are a lot out there 98-2002 and for 5-6k with the ls1 that are in nice shape within a good distance of sc.
hope I was some help

For the 3800, you are better off going for a turbo, but you will have to ditch your AC.

I have not liked any of the supercharger options on the 4th gen 3800. The options are all there for the FWD version, but the Camaro is a pain.

(Own a project supercharged 3800 FWD car, and used to have a 4th gen bright purple metallic 3800)

Personally, I would just enjoy the 3800 for what it is. If you have a 5spd, swap out for a better geared rear-end and enjoy it. I really do miss my old 4th gen.

So im a diesel truck guy so every truck I've gotten one of the first things i do is take the egr off. i know in diesel trucks taking it off helps reduce engine wear and all that fun stuff but im not sure the same applies to the camaro. would taking it off be beneficial of does it not matter? and i need new suspension what are yall's suggestions?

I wouldn't worry about it, unless it clogs and starts to throw P codes on you. You would need block-off plates, remove the hoses, and a tune to remove the codes from the PCM. Tuning a 96 gets funky, as you have to use a 97 PCM sometimes. I don't think it's worth it unless you are having troubles with the system. Being as old as the car already is, you won't be keeping the engine any cleaner by removing it now.

KYB makes pretty nice struts for the car, with OEM style springs would ride nice. Also make sure you check the rear bump stops, as those tend to degrade really quickly on these cars and make the car sound like it's bottoming out over bumps.

Just noticed your profile says it's a convertible. Get a subframe connector too. I believe BMR makes a nice tubular one for your car.

also i notice a clicking/tickling from the engine while driving. i hear that its a common noise that the injectors make. can you get rid of it or make it quieter because it sounds bad and it bugs the hell out of me.

My injectors were never that loud that it bothered me while driving. Are you sure it's injector noise and not lifter tick? Oil level, and weight good?

brooksw_ 02-17-2018 10:58 AM

well i might have over stated a little its audible but not loud if you didn't know what to listen for i don't thing you would notice it. but ill get it checked out and if it is the lifters than ill just bite the bullet and get them replaced. the labor of replacing them will cost more than the lifters themselves.

soooooo i have a problem. i went out side to go get gas this morning and my car wouldn't start. i drove it last night and it was fine. its not the battery and the gas gauge said 1/4 of a tank but i know from experience not to trust gm gas gauges, so i put about a gallon of gas in it(that's all i had at my disposal) thinking that would be enough to go 2.5 miles to the gas station. but it still wont start. its not the battery and i hear the fuel pump running.*i just replaced the whole module in the tank (fuel pump and sender) so i'm scared to try and "prime" the fuel system but turning the ignition on and letting the fuel pump run for a few seconds then turning it off a few times because there's only a gallon of gas in the tank and i literally just paid $700 to get the old one replaced because it burned out less than 2 weeks ago. i don't know what to do.

Did you do anything with the fuel filter, when you had the pump replaced?

Starter?

Just start going through the whole checklist, fuel, spark, air

update i figured it out. when i was just doing basic things around my car i was replacing fuses and putting the correct fuses in the correct spots. and the spot for the injector fuse is supposted to be a 5 amp fuse but there was a 15 amp fuse in the spot is i replaced it with a 5 which caused it not to work. so eventually i back tracked my steps and put the 15 amp back in and it ran fine. i don't know why the diagram would say that the injectors used a 5 amp fuse but i got it working.

Glad to hear it!
