New Camaro Z28 will be packing which engine?

Any info or speculation as to what engine GM will use for the next Z28:
a) LS7
b) LS9
c) LSA

i so cant wait. LS7 i'm hoping. sbc 454 will be a great base!

already have the color and options picked out.........:w00t:

LS7 would be the WORST base...no FI common its probably going to be the LS9 or LSA although in mvho i dont think they should even use an LSx

:sm0: Your avatar is great.

And I say LSA, and they should make special colors for it like Hugger Orange.

LSA is what I'd bet.

LS9 probably won't ever be in anything but a corvette from the factory, and I feel like they're going to go with FI.
Also, the LS7 is a 427 I think, not a 454

Okay, what is an LSA?

LS9 will never go into a factory camaro, it's a $20k motor!

I would assume it would be the LS7, which you are correct in saying it is a 427. a 454 is a BB motor. All LSX motors are SB's.

I thought I remember reading the LS7 was about to be history too costly to build and so on. I could be wrong.

radz28 07-09-2009 04:59 PM

The LSA is the SC'd 6.2 in the CTS-V that makes 556 HP.

The LS7, last I read, is on it's way out of production.

It seems to me the LSA is the best bet. It's likely cheaper to build because it doesn't share as many of the exotic metals the LS7 and LS9 do. Also, it's not build at Wixom, but in Mexico, if memory serves. I think the dry-sump oiling system is another drawback to the 7 and 9.

Unless a Gen V makes it before Z28 returns, I think it'll be the LSA.

Search the thread Tran suggests though. There's no concrete proof of anything, though, either way.

LSA is essentially an LS9 with a smaller supercharger, outputs round 550+hp if i recall.

i'd say LS7 is going in, LS9 is ZR1 territory, i don't think that's where the Z28 needs to stand. maybe an LSA could go, but my guess is the LS7.

hollywoodGU 07-09-2009 05:08 PM

People the LS7 will not go it the z28
1.its on its way out
2.its too weak for FI

Aveo hybrid

ASSOCIATED PRESS JULY 9, 2009 Updated 18 minutes ago.
NEW YORK - The new General Motors is about to roll off the assembly line as a leaner, greener model, maybe even a profitable one, too.

Once the world’s largest and most powerful automaker, the troubled company was expected to emerge from bankruptcy protection by early Friday cleansed of massive debt and burdensome contracts that would have sunk it without federal loans.

The new company, 61 percent owned by the U.S. government, will clear bankruptcy in record time to face a brutally competitive global automotive market in the middle of the worst sales slump in a quarter-century.

:yikes:

correct LS7 is 427 cubic inches..... the LSx block available thru GMPP can be stroked to accomodate a 454 cubic inch small block when custom built. a few drag racers and some street cars with LSx blocks that I know of that have done it....

LME is one of the suppliers now building 454 ci LSx smallblocks....

We've had LS7 confirmed as being on its way out around a year ago or so. Unless everything we've been told on this site for years has been false, LS7 is a definite no for the Z28. It isn't much of a base anyway, as it isn't the easiest to modify.

Safe bet is on LSA unless they get the GenV engines out in time.
