Clarification Please! L99 and 1st gear

For those of you with the L99...there seems to be some confusion with 1st gear on the L99 Auto...

I understand that in manual mode, you ALWAYS have to shift into 1st gear yourself...the computer will only shif down to 2nd gear. Got it, no problem.

In DRIVE does it always start in 2nd gear??? I've never heard that before until someone recently posted that. If that is the case, that kind of sucks...:mad0259:

What does it do in SPORT mode (trans in "M" but not using Tap Shift)? Does it start off in 1st or 2nd gear? That is supposed to be more aggressive shifting so I would assume it would actually start off in 1st...if not, then that sucks even more...:mad0260:

Also, could the issue of it not starting in 1st be resolved with a tune?

Sport mode starts in 1st Gear.
D starts in second gear to save gas.

Yup. :D

Can't you access sport mode while in Drive? Isn't it just traction control/stabilitrack disabled?

There are two sport options.

1. Is the traction control/stabiltrack

the other is

2. Sport gearing with the car in M which the gearing changes for perfomance.

While driving just drop the car to M.

You're thinking of Competition Mode, which does still have some stabilitrack (just not as intrusive as normal). Sport Mode is what you get by putting the shifter all the way down into the position where you'd be able to use the tap shifters, but if you don't start actually using the tap shifters, then it's like a more aggressively-programmed version of Drive. Competition Mode is V8 autos only; Sport Mode is on both V6 and V8 autos.

Here's another question. If you go into Sport Mode, can you also tap the button twice and set it into Competition Mode...or as far as that goes, hold the button down and turn off both the Stabilitrack and Traction Control? Also, when doing this, will you always start off in 1st gear?
