2010 Camaro Engine Line-Up Guess
So I'm making a wild guess when I say that maybe:
The base engine: 3.6L 260 hp V-6 V-8 engine: L76 with around 400 hp (optimized intake and exhaust flow could yield 39hp over current L78's 361hp. Also current truck L78 has varible valve timing that could be easily utilized. No L76 manual trans as in current trucks and G8 GT. AFM can be felt changing modes without a torque converter to asborb the slight shock. That's why all manual trans for trucks were canceled as soon as AFM arrived. AFM on most new Camaros will provide good CAFE, and allow them to be marketed as "Green". And save gas on the highway. The Camaro SS will be the bad-ass brother to the G8 GXP LS3 (Their momma's name is Zeta). They are only building 5000-7000 GXP's because this small number will not greatly impact GM's CAFE. SS V-8 = LS3 Manual six-speed available, no AFM, and sold in limited numbers same as G8 GXP. (Don't get me wrong I hope the LS3 is the entry level V8 engine) What do you think? |
:bangdesk: Not this guesssing game again...I can' take it anymore...:bangdesk:

I dislike the thought that to get AFM you have to have an Auto. I know that no few people will be looking at the V6 for cost, insurance etc but will still want a 6speed stick.
from Wiki: LLT The 3.6 L (3564 cc) LLT is a direct injected version of the LY7. It was first unveiled in May 2006, and was claimed to have 15% greater power, 8% greater torque, and 3% better fuel economy than it's port-injected counterpart. It has a compression ratio of 11.4:1, and has been certified by the SAE to produce 302 hp (225 kW) at 6300 rpm and 272 lb·ft (369 N·m) of torque at 5200 rpm on regular unleaded (87 Octane) gasoline. This engine will debut on the 2008 Cadillac STS and CTS Its a possible contender. Also about a Turbo 4: LNF Pontiac will offer a Gasoline direct injection version (redubbed Spark Ignition Direct Injection) for use in the 2007 Solstice GXP. Displacement is 2.0 L (1998 cc) with an 86 mm (3.38 in) bore and stroke. Compression is 9.2:1, delivering 260 hp (194 kW) @ 5300 rpm and 260 ft·lbf (353 N·m) of torque @ 2500 - 5250 rpm[1]. The "Gen II" block is similar to the 2.4 L and also features VVT technology. Unique LNF features[2] include:
A 260hp SIDI 4cyl in a base no frills model isn't shabby. Then there would still be the big V8. That would a workable delivery platform. However, I just cant see Chevy having but so many different engines dedicated to the model. This would probably mean the ~400hp block would be as good as it gets. If I had to guess with the tidbits we have so far: Base with the 260 - 4cyl (LNF) Upscale base and RS(level 1) with the 302 - 6cyl (LLT) RS(2) (RS/SS pack) and SS with the 430 - 8cyl (LS3) Z28 with the 430 - 8 (LS3) and sport suspension To be honest my vote would be ditch the 4 Base and RS(1) with the LLT 302 - 6cyl (LLT) RS(2) with the 430 - 8cyl (LS3) Z28 with the LS3 and a sport suspension 430 - 8cyl (LS3) SS and Z28/SS with the 550hp - 8cyl S/C (LSA) my $.02 |
I think you forgot about one popular thing....the Z28.
Power on V6 is a little low IMO. Don't forget about a turbo four...could easily happen. |
Going with the info that is out there, I would have to say V6 DI 302hp.
V8 LS3 im praying :chevy: Going from what we have all seen in the past with the SSR, I don't thank :chevy: would put that L76 in it cause what happened to the SSR, remember everyone wanted the LS2 and thay did do that, what the next year. I thank :chevy: is hearing what all of us are saying that we want an LS3. my $.02 |
There wont be a 400hp version of the L76. They have a 402hp version of the LS3 so that would be redundant for no reason. I would expect that the Camaro will get an LS3 but it will be the 402hp one.

If there isn't a manual tran option for the entry-level V8 a LOT of people are going to be upset (myself included).

Paddle Shifter FTW!!!

Base I4 Turbo. 240-260 hp.
Mid-trim 300hp DI V6 w/AFM SS 400hp LS3 w/ AFM. EDIT: Limited quantity, Z28. (engine: Supercharged LS8 520-550hp.) |
Dragon,
I don't think you've bought into the LSA/LS8 superchaged idea yet... You seem to be pretty stoked on the idea of the LS3. Am I wrong? Just curious. Edit: Copy all. |

if I seem stoked about the LS3...it's cause I am. I won't be able to afford the Z28...and I don't honestly think I'd want it, either. But that reason's for another time, and I'm sure it'll come up before long. ;) |

i hope the V6 is the base engine... If it isn't i won't buy the Camaro right away. I'll wait until i have enough money for the 6...
