Please put XXX engine in Z28

I just looked, and noticed there wasn't a poll for an engine for Z28 yet, so I thought it'd be nice to see what many of you thought, and how the community, on the whole, felt. This poll is not about arguing why, per se, GM should install XXX engine, more of what you guys would like to see in it, for whatever reasons. I'd encourage a brief description since this topic's been beat-up pretty good in related posts. I just figured it'd be easier to see in a dedicated topic. It's my understanding LS7 is going away, however, in light of Mr. Al Oppenheiser's statements regarding Z28 a few months ago, and knowing the support of many it has here, I added it. Also, with the annoucement of a possible FI'd high-performance V6 being considered, I included that too.

Let's assume Z28 will be the last high-performance model to the line-up (but not necessarily the last performance option, like adding a Track Pack package as an option, or something along those lines). Let's consider Z28 the "Top Dog" Camaro. Let's also assume that we're going to keep Z28 within the price range of the Ford Mustang GT500. I don't want to say that it will be a direct competitor, because I know many friends here are looking for a traditional Z28 that can turn, so I just want it to match the 500 in price.

There's no privacy in this poll, so your selection will be public. If you guys prefer to not have your choices public, let me know and I'll change it.

LS9 - Carryover from ZR1; not as much power, but more than LSA
LSA - Carryover from CTS-V
LS9/LSA Hybrid - An LSA with LS9 pistons; maybe LS9 cam; LS9 supercharger; etc.
Gen V - Largely unknown; probably at least 450 horse'; Direct Injection 6.2L
SC'd/TC'd V6 - Think LLT twin turbo, for example
LS7 - Carryover from Z06; around 500 horse'

What do you think? :wave::iono::D

I'd be happy with the LS7/9/A, any one of them to be honest.

To me it depends on what the Z/28 is.... Is it the only other Camaro we are getting? Does it need to be a end all monster or just a track star? If we are getting a Z/28 and LZ1... Then I would like the Z/28 to be a N/A engine and the LZ1 to be a supercharged engine. By the way I am just throwing names out there since we have no Idea what is coming!

D@mnit! Let me breathe :) I'll be more specific...

Updated poll...

I'm in for a hybrid. I agree that forged pistons should be acceptable for Z28 because I don't think many are going to complain if there's a little more noise on cold start-up. I'd like the confidence of knowing there are forged slugs in the engine so I can crank up the power a little more. I don't think it'd hurt to upgrade the rod bolts and if there are some through GMPP, I can't see that there'd be too great an expense for that change. Finally, throw on the 2300 from the 'Vette. Though it looks like the LSA Intercooler/Supercharger assembly will fit fine under the hood, it looks like LS9 will too. It'd be nice to have a little more headroom, power-wise too. I think it'd help position the power level to more between LSA and LS9, which I think would be nice too. It sounds like the GT500 is going to be upgrading in the next couple years, and we know the weight of Z28 wouldn't get much better if GM goes with an SC'd engine, so maybe getting closer to 600 FWHP would insure it stays ahead of the 500. However, if it adds to cost, considerably, just leave the LSA as-is, with the 1900.

LSA... small displacement, large horsepower... keeping in sync with the original Z28 philosophy. If it came with the LS7 then to me it would sound more "SS" than "Z28"... but that is just me and my old school thinking.

The LS9 would be the logical choice I think or some derivative of it. If it will be a direct competitor of the GT500, it needs to be a fully built engine ..

Where is the LS7 on your poll?

I added it, mostly because of the somewhat statement from Mr. Oppenheiser. I know that many people here also support it a LOT. Additionally, it probably speaks to the heritage the 1st Gen cars. I know Z28s never had 427s, but the baddest (IMO) Camaros had 427s, and the LS7 represents probably the lightest alternative, and makes the most sense toward making Z28 a corner-carver.

Thanks for the suggestion because I orginally wasn't going to add it. I realized that I was eliminating options for probably half of the people who'd love to see Z28 come back.

I have to think about this one, hard decision. LS9 or LSA, humm.

ShnOmac 09-30-2009 01:39 PM

You know how this poll is going to end up. most of the votes are going to be for the biggest power. Thats not the heritage of the Z/28....... Myabe instead of debating what engines we would like to see we should be debating what models we would like to see :D

BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I WANT MOOOAAAAAARRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

:D

No, serioulsy. I think GM can figure out where to draw the line between heritage and performance driven models. I think the bottome line is hopefully we can show GM that, on some level, there are a few of us that want the LS9... How they package and brand it is a different converation for sure.

I would LOVE it if they put the LS9 in the Z/28 but I doubt we'll get that lucky. I'd be happy with the LSA or LS7 motor.

Maybe that is the conversation we should be having??? Why limit ourselves to just ONE preformance Camaro???
