With LUTZ signing on again, suspect you will see some rebadging of cars. They spent alot on R&D to just let these cars die.

I'll believe it when I see the re-badge.. Kinda pointless unless they can the Impala because you're looking at two cars that are competing in house for the same market segment.

Not necessarily. Impala already sells well to families who want a large, FWD sedan for hauling the kids around. Impalas can still be built and can serve as GM's mainstream FWD sedan as well as a fleet car to avoid dumping Malibus into fleet. This new Caprice would be aimed more towards those who want RWD and a sportier ride.

A few other people are suggesting just replacing Impala with Malibu and using the current Impala solely for fleet sales, similar to what Ford does with the Crown Victoria.

they already have it as a Caprice in the middle east, so I don't see why they wouldn't just bring it here. Most of the tooling should be the same

Interesting. If done, this move will absolutely concentrate GM's affordable sports cars into the Chevrolet brand. Cobalt SS, (other SS's), Camaro, Corvette, and now G8...er Caprice.

I'd love to see the G8 become an Impala, but if they both exist, and you have a "Caprice" in the 30k range, it's in the same price range as the Cadillac CTS. I'm not sure there is a market for a Chevy sedan over 30k.

Caprice/G8=Police Interceptor.

They have Police Departments interested in them and may get 40,000 a year in orders just from PD's. That would rock.
