BMW 1200GS adventure vs BMW F800GS vs KTM 990 Adventure
Yes I know this is the Camaro Forums- but its Friday at 4:30 so cut me some slack.
So this winter I'm likely replacing my exploring motorcycle (KLR650) and I'm likely going to upgrade to one of the bikes above. I'm sort of leaning toward the 800gs vs the 990 because those are more dual purpose capable and lighter. But the 1200GS adventure is so nice- but it's more expensive and harder to justify because I'm a tightass. Every time I visit the local shop though- a Triumph Tiger is staring at me...sort of a dark horse in the running. And I don't want a Ducati or sportbike of any other make- my bike hits the dirt. Thoughts? |
Buell Ulysses. I love buell's. I want an 1125R in the worst way.

I would go with one of the BMWs but i'm a bit partial to them. I say go cruise around the forums for the bikes you're looking at and see what they say about them and what problems they have

I know this is a ford forum....eh wait...bmw forum....eh oh Camaro forum..LOL but cut me some slack.
Count Chocula or Frankenberry? |
Frankenberry, duh....
I could start a Camaro SS vs Kia Sephia thread if you'd like Rodimus. We could argue about interiors for a while. I'll take a look at the Buell too. That's pretty cool. |
I currently own a Suzuki DL 650 and love the bike. When I do upgrade I will be getting the GS 800. I also like the GS 1200 Adventure but that is one huge bike. It's very pricey too. I think the 800 is the best choice of all of them...

Ya that 800 is a good size. Sharp looking too.

Pick the F800. I personally owned a brand new 2005 F650 GS and put only 3300 miles before I sold it , I couldn't stand the shaking of the single cylinder. I almost purchased the KLR 650, I think looks bad ass and the prices is the best but the new two cylinder f800 is the way to go.
I also ridden on a R1150GS and it is way too fuking big and heavy. With the windshield that thing stands like 5'5"' tall and you will get sunk on sand. If you decide to get the F800 get it with the on-board computer option and heated grips |

p.s. I own both a KTM and a BMW FGS and the BMW is just not in the same league as a KTM off road. The KTM is much more difficult to maintain and isn't nearly as nice of a road bike as the BMW. Pick your poison. |
F800GS was just picke as "Best adventure bike" of the year! It also helps that its 4000 less than the R1200GS!

Ya very nice on the f800. I hadn't heard that the Adventure took a lot of maintenance relatively speaking.
I'll tell you how I ride my KLR, I like to go to ghost towns and old indian war forts and stuff. I've hit a lot of the Oregon Trail. So it's usually around 50-150 miles on the road followed by 20 miles on the dirt jeep trails. The KLR has been great, but I want to step up a notch or two. |
