Performance tires or all season?
Hey folks, I've got some Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires on my 2012 2SS right now and I'm trying to plan out what to go to next. These aren't bad to ride on, but I was wondering if it wouldn't be better to get some all season tires, since these Firehawks are probably a bit better suited to a track.
I would like some opinion on whether I should keep to performance tires on my daily driver, or switch to all seasons, and why? I'm in SC, so we have quite a lot of rain as well as humidity/heat. Thanks in advance. |
Summer / performance tires are better in rain than all seasons typically. The only real reason to run all seasons is if you drive with temps below 40 or so or for occasional light snow (and don’t want to swap out dedicated snow tires for winter).
I run all seasons on mine because I live in Southern Ohio and so I need something for the cold - but we don’t get all that much snow here. In South Carolina, unless you are way west, you’d probably be best with summer performance tires. |
I run FALKEN ZIEX ZE 950 A/S tires (AWESOME in the snow BTW), a W speed rated all-season. Of course mine is a DD that sees rain, snow, sleet etc. in N/E Ohio and I can't afford 2 sets of rims/tires.
If I lived in a state where cold temps and snow weren't a factor, I would probably run high-performance, summer tires. https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/0f0...0&odnBg=FFFFFF |

As said earlier if your temps normally above 40 degrees with not much snow to be worried about i'd stick with summer tires. I run Conti's and Michelin during the warm months. By the way what kind of mileage did you get out of the Firestones. |
for a daily driver....and you will get into lower temperatures PLUS you may drive north in the winter with no real fear......AND an A/S tire has a longer life span as well.

Those look more my speed. The Firehawks are so smooth by comparison. |
take a look at General G-Max AS-05, I've got the AS-03 and really like them.

These were my 2nd choice, I also had the AS-03 tires on my last car and really liked them.

I have been running Nitto Motivos A/S 60,000 tread wear warranty. They are nice for the road.

I have these on my ZL1. Good tire that you can run in cold weather, and great in the rain. Had a set of these on my 95 Z28 too. Really good tire for the price. |
