My new carbon fiber bowtie

Here are some pictures of a little project I completed earlier. I decided the bowtie would look pretty sick with the gold part of it being carbon fiber so I did it. Let me know what you think of it and how it looks and pm me with any questions.

PS: I will post pictures of it on the car tommorow!

Tell us where you got it. Support your vendors.

I did it myself with a sheet of carbon fiber vinyl. I think I'm going to start selling them precut sometime if anyone is interested. It is very easy once you get the dimensions of the gold part of the bowtie and cut it out on the vinyl.

I'm impressed. If you make anything else, show us.

Thank you and will do!

i did the same thing....i was able to buy a foot long sheet at autozone and just placed a larger piece over the bowtie......i had to stretch it a little to fit good and get it smooth......there is a perfect lined indentation around the bowtie to run an xacto around and mine turned out perfect. did em both in about 10 minutes for about 10 bucks! yours looks great too!

i like it dude. thinking of doing this to my black ride when it gets here.

I did this too, but I got a little wrinkle on the front one that I couldn't live with... the wrinkle was due to the curvature of the bowtie. I tried several times to do this without getting the wrinkle, and ended up running out of the material after about 8 tries. I even tried heating it..... which helped, but I still couldn't get the wrinkle 100% gone... So I had it painted.

Looks great.

I did the same thing using the same vinyl. The rear went on nice in one piece. The front however I had to do in 2 pieces. I couldn't get the angles with one piece. Did you do yours in 1? If so how did you manage it? Would love to know.

This is exactly what I did -- got a roll of carbon-fiber vinyl at Autozone. Installed it back in early October & it's holding up great through all the cold & snow in Nebraska this winter. Still have plenty of material left over in case it should ever need to be replaced down the road. I highly recommend!

Did you do the front in 1 piece or 2? If 1 how did u manage it?I've had mine on for several months and it's holding well in our Colorado weather.

I recently did mine in black... All one piece. Took some playing with, smoothing and a hair dryer.

I'm tempted to give it a try with CF... looks cool.

get the material and lay it down and only stick down accross the center high point. Pull the upper part up and stretch to get to both upper parts ....do the same for the bottom and the sides are easy.......a little heat will help alot. Hopefully this will help rather than confuse.

I shaped the bowtie with a piece of paper a bunch of times before I actually cut the carbon fiber. You are able to see where you need to add when cutting and you need to play with it alot. Use the paper as a stencil to cut out the carbon fiber and you should be fine. Again just keep playing with it even use a little heat like other people are doing and it will eventually fit perfect.

FWIW, Autozone (around here) doesnt carry it, but Advance does.

SNV 01-23-2010 05:11 PM

I bought my vinyl from here http://www.metrodecals.com/
Did mine in flat black. Took some work but got the front in one piece. I order blue carbon fiber last week. Should be here monday. Not sure if I will like the blue but for like $6 shipped it's worth a try hehe.

Did the rear first...no issue. The front I did in 2 pieces due to wrinkle issues going over the center.
