253,000 miles , second set of timing chains

I changed the original chains myself at 117,000 and just got through today doing the second set. I bought the first set off rockauto but I forgot who made them. Cloyes made the ones I just put on , also bought on rockauto .

What year is your car?

This has to be the highest mileage 3.6 ever. You should look into that, it has to be some sort of record.

What was wrong with the chains that made you change it at 117k?

PieNsky 12-09-2017 02:36 PM

Early 2010s had premature wear. Don't know who made the replacement chains that I used, but they were no better. I went with the Cloyes as they had a complete kit which I thought may end up being cheaper than if I had to buy each of the guides, actuators , chains , etc. individually .
Something I noticed , the right side head accumulates oil on these engines.

What other major work have you had done? Is that still the original transmission? What sort of preventive maintenance schedule did you stick with?

That is really excellent ! Congratulations on your mileage milestone!

That is awesome! Do you do all your own routine maintenance ( I would imagine you do)? Great job!
