K&N What Can I expect?

:first:Hi I just bought a K&N Drop in Filter for my SS Camaro 6 on the floor.:pop2:

I havn't installed it yet and will not get a chance until the weekend.

My question to you is once installed, what can I expect performance wise?:iono: Will there be a notable difference in performance at all?:help::thanks:

Nope.

yup u'll gain a vanity :sm0:

IMHO your car will breathe better with the K&N than on the OEM filter. Likely a slight performance gain/better air flow. You are however, unlikely to "feel" any performance gains.

+1 for sticker

You gain a smaller wallet for no advantage whats so ever. Infact, make sure you dont over oil it as that could actually cause you problems.

There are so many threads on so many forums about K & N. Some people rave about them, others complain and there is the over oiling issue, screwing up air flow meters, etc.

I can only comment on my own personal experience after many years of driving and using them.

I think that they work. Performance gains- depends on the car and the air filter you had previously. Some OEM filters are pretty darn good quality. If you have a plan paper filter, the K & N is an upgrade. More than performance increase, I have seen a 1-3 MPG improvement. Again it depends on the car and filter, how dirty it was previously, etc.

And you cannot over oil them- it's so easy to wash them and just keep spraying them with oil- just follow the directions and do not over oil.

There's a thread around here somewhere with a dyno test before and after and he got like 5 HP

You won't feel any difference in the way the car feels. On a Dyno you might pick up 3-4 HP.

I did the same thing and cut open the side of the airbox at the same time. Made a bit more noise but didn't feel anything in the seat of the pants.

+1

I believe it was Lethal Camaro, so it's probably a legit 5HP gain. However, you won't feel any difference (I also have a K&N).

get a green filter instead.

kropscamaro16 08-14-2018 11:07 AM

nothing

MackSteelPrivateEye 08-14-2018 12:06 PM

You could expect 15 or 20hp from the drop in filter. But in reality you will get maybe 2-5 max.
