CamaroFest 8 - Drag Racers

Interesting. As much as i loved the nice weather I'd love high 70s low 80s this time lol. That heatsoak last year was killer. Any chance they will keep better track of who's racing in the classes? I know myself and whiskeyfed sat in the staging lanes for our runs for like 5-8 mins while they kept announcements going for us to be there.

Second question if we arrived on thursday can we tech in that day to save time i know we all kinda sat there for the tech in on friday for awhile last year.

If you are drag racing, post up what class and I'll do my best to keep this list as 100% updated as i can. If you need to bail for any major reason shoot me a PM or post on here so i can adjust accordingly in case maybe classes and racers wanna do their own ideas in addition to class racing.

Tech will be definitely be done early. The issue last year was a misunderstanding over tech cards and getting them to the tech station. This time they will be handed out along with the wristband and there will be no lines other than a quick morning meeting.

Waiting 10 minutes in staging lanes is not un-common and most just shut their cars off and push. The tower manages that but we will do our best to manage it.

I will add I didn't hear a single negative word about track prep last year.
We hope to continue that one for sure.

I loved the track prep zero issues there. Awesome that tech is gonna be a bit more organized and i get you mike was just a laugh for me and whiskeyfed we were wondering if we were ever gonna get called in the finals had time to run the length of the track talk to you get called run back get into my car go down the lanes and sit in front of the staging area for 8 minutes while they kept paging for us.

506JTF 12-18-2017 10:04 AM

How about stock zl1, same rules as the SS class?

That's a good question wheres the ZL1 class mike? Maybe make it a ZL1 class and modified if they each get 8 like the V6 guys. Speaking of the V6 guys i hope our two 10s V6 guys make it back this july and stay in one piece.

Last year I was in super mod with a stock ZL1. I probably won't make it this year, but it would be nice to have a stock ZL1 class.

RubyCamaro 12-18-2017 10:31 AM

Last year I qualified for bracket & V6 but they refused to wait for me to hot lap back to run brackets after my V6 run. They said I had to choose which to run but that if I could make it back they would see. Would have just amounted to a couple minutes but when I came right back they were already running. Really sad. I just wanted to make at least one run in bracket.
:pout:
I would again like to try to run V6 & bracket.

PowerCreep 12-18-2017 10:32 AM

What constitutes "modified" for the V6 class? Thanks.

Typically bolt-ons and tune so things like LT's HFCs etc. but I heard mention through that group that they'd prefer it be FI/Nitrous as the benchmark for modified as the bolt-on guys and girls aren't gonna run to ridiculously faster then one another.

I think mike is really getting out ahead of the planning this year to resolve these types of issues from last year we can only help him with polite suggestions. He's always been a good listener if what is said makes sense.

Ace0751 12-18-2017 10:47 AM

I’ll probably just run test n tune like I did last fest. Us folks in the verts don’t stand much of a chance. I was in modified with many others that were cammed and had no chance in bracket racing. Best was just test n tune to go heads up with some friends.

Last fest tech took forever and was wondering what happened but at least we will have our cards when we get our wristbands. Maybe have extra cards at the track cause you know some people magically lose them within 12 hours.

RubyCamaro 12-18-2017 11:05 AM

I know. That is why the comment.

I agree... we ran out of time last year to get this one in. Will try again.

No idea how this could possibly happen unless you drove back to the parking area first.
Merc will be running things this year and we will spread things out as much as possible. Just keep him informed of where you are at.

I explained in my last post. The track thought we already had the tech cards and their guy didn't show up early so we could get them from him so we waited. It did make for a good place to do the morning drag meeting so lesson learned for sure.
This time you will get a card with your wrist band and already have it filled out and ready to go.

Track goes hot at 9 and we indent to start test and tune right off..

Not sure I understand your comment about bracket racing. Any car has equal chances there even a Ford. Consistent times with a good dial in plus a perfect launch will get you a win almost every time.

"They" referred to the guy running the staging area & No, I came directly back to the lanes.

Tom And Cheryl 12-18-2017 04:41 PM

To add to the confusion last year, I did the autocross on Friday and it was very confusing on where I was supposed to go as I lined up with everyone in the drag racing line. As we were all waiting I noticed across the way the autocross course and by the time I realized it I was late for the drivers meeting. Cheryl and I agreed that a couple of signs as you enter the race track would be very beneficial.

X-Factor 12-18-2017 04:42 PM

Ill be in the Class 2: Stock SS Camaros. Thanks! And somehow I missed the Bracket Racing last year... But then again I may have been autocrossing and didnt hear the announcement... Looking forward to racing a V8 this time, been a V6'r for 4 years now and I will miss racing in that class. Looking forward to seeing how the new rig does... :D

PowerCreep 12-18-2017 04:50 PM

I've never drag raced (officially, haha) on a track. This will be something open to everyone willing to pay; I presume?
Not drag related...also, will there be any organized point a-b cruises or are those just set up by the folks there?

This is the perfect setting for a 1st timer. Plenty of friends to help out and give pointers.

As far as a cruise... last year we did one to Mammoth Cave on Sunday. Stay tuned for Sunday activities.

Since you are in Little Rock you should stay tuned with the Texas CamaroVan and jump in with them on their way through to Bowling Green. The Houston Camaro Club always stops there for lunch.

HartfordRacingCaptain 12-18-2017 08:40 PM

Stock SS please

wrankin 12-18-2017 08:44 PM

I noticed that the track ran the pro tree rather than the standard tree. After the fact I saw some guys grumble a little about it here on Camaro6. Mike, do you know what the plan is for 2018? ...and what determines the type of tree?

Signed up to drag race at this year's fest and blew a tire on the way there. Ended up with mismatched compound and I wasn't able to autocross either.

Bill

wrankin 12-18-2017 08:47 PM

Put me down for bracket racing.

Updated. Ruby i hope we get enough V6 racers this year we'll need to have an offhand discussion with mike and maybe merc on everyones thoughts seperating the nitrous/FI V6 Camaros and the bolt-on V6 Camaros.

I guess the real discussion is do our two 10s V6 Racers, racergirl and Rick have an issue with separating their Nitrous/FI cars from the less heavily modded V6s.

Well, one of the 2 TT guys is out. He’s not coming to fest. But honestly, all the v6s are gonna get lumped into one class. Yet again. Which isn’t fair.

Bo White 12-19-2017 12:51 AM

Pro Tree all the way. Heard tons of people loving the Pro Tree especially in modified class.

We can change that if we get ahead of it now problem is for all the V6 racers i think there's maybe 3 or 4 vocal ones i don't even own a V6 anymore and I'm fighting for you guys having two classes. I get the need to have the turnout like mlee has said but having bolt-ons vs. Nitrous & FI builds in the V6 stable doesn't leave a lot of fairness it's like putting an SS against a ZL1 stock for stock. I mean had the Gretchen and Jantzen cars not exploded their guts on that amazing heads up run the closest would've been rick to them and he wasnt running his nitrous and was i think a 13.3? Your talking a full 3 seconds almost there.
