DIY - IPAD2 Dash Mount without center speaker
5 Attachment(s)
This will be a DIY for mounting an ipad2 to your dash with out drilling or any modifications. I found a way to secure the ipad with the help of some other threads on this site. I want to do the DIY right and i will be updating it and adding photos over the next 2 days. I will start with the finished look of the mount.
This Mount uses the following materials - 2 Large suction cups supporting 7 pounds each - 3m Velcro - gorilla super glue - razor - ipad2 shell case that supports smart cover - iphone vent mount I have been testing this mount for the last 2 days before i decided to post this DIY, The ipad hasn't moved and seems very sturdy over bumps and sharp turns and heat in the vehicle. Just wait for the full write up. Attachment 345069 Update- Start by cutting the suction cups hook off with the razor to make a flat surface apply gorilla glue to the suction cup and then apply one side of the 3m velcro let dry for up to 4 hours to get a secure bond Attachment 345074 Apply other side of Velcro to the ipad shell case take the iPhone vent holder apart leaving just the vent clips and the base attached Attachment 345071 take the 3m Velcro and apply it to the flat side of the vent holder put the vent holder and suction cups in place like shown in the photo. mark the shell case to match where the Velcro should go Attachment 345073 apply all Velcro to case and stick together to see if the mount holds. Attachment 345072 add ipad and enjoy Attachment 345069 |

Tule,
I used the 3m Velcro. That sucker plus the gorilla glue really holds to the suction cups and the vent mount. Today is day 3 and its still on tight.Ill get a video up of it tomorrow. ill take a video tonight on my way over to Disney to shoot pool. |
Will this also work for the first gen iPad and the "New iPad?"
:sm0: :yikes: |
Very cool, did you do anything to hide the cable running to your center console for the USB connection?

Update-
I have been using this mount for 4 months with no issues. The Velcro is fantastic and holds the iPad very steady at all times. |
Awesome love how your in Orlando so that we know the heat and humidity aren't affecting it.

good idea, just seems like you're asking to get robbed though
|
That's where the velcro comes in, you take it with you. I use my iPad more then my laptop. Trust me everyone who see's the mount loves it. I have requests for mounts. I also built one for my work car whichs is a 2011 jetta, the mount is super solid.

But like I said, I love the idea, and if you take your iPad everytime you get out of your car, this mod is a great thing to do! |
Update - the GPS is sweet and the device is very stable.

Looks good! You know for just the added peace of mind 3M also does a locking kind of velcro. It's called reclosable tape. It would secure better in my opinion but would make taking it off a little bit of a pain. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: http://www.misterart.com/adhesives/h...rabberProducts
