MRT v2 installation tips???
So i'll be getting my MRT v2 exhaust on Tuesday, and i'm just seeing if anyone had any last minutes tips for installation.
I'm sure it will be very simple, i've read the instructions on their website, but it never hurts to ask for any last minutes tips before you hacksaw your exhaust on your 32k dollar car :face palm: And yes, my plan is to use a metal hacksaw. I hope that will work haha. Thanks! |

One tip I learned hanging out at MRT is to use a hose clamp to get a nice clean marking on the pipe... (these are not Camaro pictures so don't get confused! LOL)

Make sure the clamp does overlap the new and old pipe. Don't be afraid to really TIGHTEN the clamps! Basically as tight as you can get it! |
An extra nut on each bolt makes sure that things don't loosen up unless you want them to.

Thanks Scrming! You're always on these threads giving great advice. I also read another installation post where someone said that they preferred to measure the cut line 2.5"-3" from the stock mufflers rather than the suggested 3.5". Any input or experience with different measurements?

Hey Scrming, i was just reading over this thread, http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111646, and you gave the same advice about having the clamps over the old and new pipe. I'm sure it will make perfect sense when i actually receive and see the mufflers, but does that guy not have the clamp over the two pipes and not connecting them?? I'm just imagining two pipes the same size being held together with the clamp connecting the two in the middle....

I tried a couple of different clamps/nut combos on mine....and eventually they would always turn. I finally gave in and paid the guy across the street from where i work $35 to weld em......perfect

I had to tighten mine down three times, they kept shifting on me. First 2 I used just my regular socket wrench and I guess it wasn't enough. Last time I used a really long one to get more torque and really crank it down. It hasn't moved in some 3 weeks now. Don't be afraid to really give the clamp hell (esp. on the passenger side, that ones the tricky side.)

My clamps never let the pipes shift or move but they never sealed up . I wanted to weld but after seeing a buddys install I went his way . Jegs sells band clamps that fit perfect ! And when bolted on you can see how they compress to both pipes by the out lines they leave . MRT clamps don't and I'm leak Free !
