How is everyone taking care of the hood carbon fiber insert?

The manual days no waxing but mine could use some. What are you pros using on it?

If it is the exposed carbon fiber hood it is clear coated and can be cared for like the rest of your paint.

Hmm. Manual says to not do it or it becomes hazy looking.

What he said, mine is ECF and I use the same wax on it that I do on the whole car.

The manual is not sitting in front of me, but I could have sworn when I read it that it said what you said for the painted one, but that it is okay to wax the ECF, and I can tell you from experience that is okay to wax the ECF

URBAN LEGEND 07-11-2013 08:36 PM

I'm going for it then.

That was only the flat black insert from 2012 that was discontinued.

The ECF insert and also the Ashen Grey painted insert can be waxed with no issues

The question is, do you have the exposed carbon weave? if it is, it's been cleared like normal paint.

In fact, since they ditched the matte black option and the others are painted AGM, I bet that can be cared for as normal painted parts.

Page 10-90 for the 2013. But I'm waxing it next time I wash the car.

I have the 2013 as well and while the manual does say that, that was for the original 2012's that had the option of ECF or Matte Black.

Matte Black couldn't be waxed. The ECF ALWAYS could be waxed.

Because of the issues with the Matte Black, it was dropped as an option starting in 2013 and they offered painted AGM instead. They just didn't update the manual.

go for it.

I read that before also. It is worded for the flat black insert as stated above. Most likely did not revise the manual since the 2013 was being produced in 2012. There is an old thread that went into the differences between the two. You'll be fine with the clear coated version.
