Camaro Caravan May 7 - WHAT??

So is this type of event holding up delivery of our cars, and are they driving YOUR car around town? This was emailed out today by a local dealership in Houston.

"Your HOUSTON AREA CHEVY DEALERS will conduct a unique caravan event, featuring the highly anticipated 2010 Chevy Camaro. More than 50 brand-new Camaros will parade across Houston, as a prelude to one of the most exciting vehicle launches in recent history.

In the early afternoon of May 7, the Camaro Caravan — under police escort — will depart Sam Houston Race Park. The Camaro Caravan will journey through selected destinations around Houston, targeting iconic destinations.

The Camaro Caravan will end its several hour tour at Minute Maid Park for the Houston Astros vs. Chicago Cubs game. The Camaro Caravan will be greeted by Camaro Club members from around the area and will park on the Avenida de Las Americas, where the Camaros will remain on display for the duration of the game.

As the Camaro Caravan route and additional details are confirmed, your HOUSTON AREA CHEVY DEALERS will provide you with updates, so you, too, can catch a glimpse as Camaro overtakes Houston."

Thats great, my dealer said they will be lucky to have punch and popcorn.

Who's new Camaro's are they putting all these miles on?

BackinBlackSS/RS 04-15-2009 10:46 AM

Seriously, do you think they are gonna drive a preorder Camaro without the owner's knowledge? Yes, I know there may be some dealers who do this, but that would be rare.
The cars are coming when they are coming. There were NO promised dates of delivery.
Only expectations by impatient buyers.

:word:

If I had an order in Huston, I would have some 'Talking' to do with my dealer about my car being there or not. As in, my car will be in that parade, IF I'M DRIVING IT! :paddle:

I hope you will be there taking photo's

So who's Camaro are they going to drive if its not the preorders? Have they built so many "stock" camaros over the preorders to spare 50 for Houston? If so, isn't preordering pretty useless?

There are nearly enough Chevy dealers in and around Houston for them to all use their 1 allocated showroom car plus just a few more (early deliveries of pre-orders - like these guys won't want to be part of this?) and they'll have the 50 or so Camaros for the drive.

I'm sure they will have 50 dealer cars over and above all the pre-orders in the Houston area. They will surely use these cars, then sell them as used.....unless they use pre-ordered cars slated for customer delivery, and tell the customers to either 1. deal with it or 2. cancel order and I will sell it to some other hapless sap who will pay more than you agreed to pay with the miles on it.

It's a BAD idea to parade those cars near Harris County IMO. I wouldn't do it.

And your reasoning for this is???

CamaroScotty 04-15-2009 10:59 AM

Dealers get 3 bonus cars...1 V6 and 2 V8's.....it was in the IDL months ago.

And my bonus car is STILL available at the end of May :)

Absolutely they will drive it. It's not yours till it's delivered and you sign the paperwork. All they have to say is that those were PDI miles that were put on or due to the extensive month-long QC checks that were done, they had to add extra miles to them for equipment verification. I'm not saying it's right, I'm not saying it's wrong. But anyone who doesn't want their car in this procession better check with their dealer and see where the cars are coming from. Or get down there and start checking VINs of all the cars like theirs to see. Maybe they are using all the dealer V6 cars for this from the state or "pooling" all of the CTF cars they can get.

True, there were no promised delivery dates, but GM also said to deliver the cars as soon as they arrived to the people waiting for them and they got the Ship to Commerce authorization around 18 days ago..........plenty of time to get the cars to their owners if there weren't problems along the way.

I wish everyone would stop calling the faithful that are waiting for verification on where their $35,000 purchases are as "impatient". I, and many others have been very patient thank you. Oh, and let's not forget very supportive by way of handing over $15,000,000 (that's millions for some of you) in pre-sold deposits for 15,000 cars that many have still yet to actually see in person.

Impatient..........I think not. Concerned, YES.

We gave away money for a piece of paper and a verbal promise that GM would still be around to build our cars and all we want is someone to explain when we stop hearing any reasonable status responses on where the thousands of cars that were built and told to start shipping disappeared to.

Did GM share too much information too early? No. The biggest problem is the internet. Too many speculations based on unknowing people that overhead a partial comment by someone else is the problem.

We understand that this is a dog-eat-dog world and business, but once the cat's out of the bag, you may as well fess up to whatever is going on, because the competitors will hurt you 10X or more worse than the "impatient" purchasers who just want to GIVE YOU THEIR MONEY!.
